would 92-95 upper ball joint fit 91?

hi all..
was wondering if a 5th gen(92-95) uppper ball joint fit a 4th gen(88-91) civic?
uppper ball joint control arm assembly.

I think they do but don't quote me on that until someone else says yes...

I know you can use the coils/struts from the EG.. but you need the UCA's to compensate for the larger coil diameter... so they SHOULD work with your stock struts/coils, but you may have an alignment issue afterward too... and you should swap both, b/c they're a diff dimension.

Don't know on the ball joint, but you are wrong about the EG struts/shocks and UCA, they will not fit an ED. #1: Strut/shock is too long. #2: Strut/shock has a bigger diameter. #3: UCA mounting points are at a different width.

You can however use the springs from an EG, but if your using lowering springs, don't expect to get the quoted lowering from it, and they will be preloaded from being on a shorter shock.

oh.. i meant to say not just the ball joint itself.. i want to install the whole assembly.. as i do have both sides for 92-95.

OK... I thought sure I read somewhere about swapping them... maybe it was EK to EG tho... dun remember, wasn't really paying attention to it when I was reading it...

According to RockAuto's part numbers, no, the ball joint won't swap over either... so you're pretty much screwed there.

If you're worried about the price, try RockAuto.com... they're pretty good on prices.

Tony, by the way.. if you're getting lowering springs, and you get them from an EG.. if they are preloaded due to being on a smaller (stock) strut assembly, they won't lower your car at all, they'll just stiffen the ride.

Preload occurs (I'm sure you know this, but to clarify) when the spring is longer than the area that it's being placed to support... Stock springs are always preloaded, which is why it can be so dangerous to remove them.

I'm not sure on the exact length difference, obviously, so lets just use this for a "for instance":

If the EG struts are 2" longer than the EF's, and you got 2" drop springs for an EG, then put them on an EF.. they should fit just like the stock springs... no preload. Obviously, with 1" drop springs from an EG, they will have 1" of preload, which, depending on the spring rates, could signifigantly stiffen your EF's ride.

With these same figures, if you got 3" drops for a EG, They would (again, in theory) drop your EF 1".

All of these figures are probably wrong based on the sizes, but you get the point.

Now... with that same principle, would you then be able to "cheap out" on lowering your EG ride by getting stock springs from a EF? Or even using the stock springs/struts from a EF, and using the EG's forks?

Well when I finally install the rear springs I will get a before and after measurement, I'm still sure the front actually lowered a little, but not much...could just be crazy there.

People have used ED springs on EGs for awhile. You can't swap forks because of the diameter difference. You might be able to use the ED fork all together, but not positive.

I'm not 100% on this, but pretty sure, since the EG springs are preloaded on the ED, they should be running at a higher spring rate than what they are actually rated at, but could be crazy here too. I know preload can play a major role in suspension setup, but I haven't read up on it much. I will learn about it more when I go to school :)

Well, I have a question, b/c that last post just confused the shit out of me... are you typing ED purposely? or do you mean EF...

And what kind of lowering do you get out of a EG with EF springs?

I'm typing ED purposely because that is what I drive. I do not own an EF, neither do you :P

I don't know on the lowering, I just know people have done it before for a cheap lowering spring.

Now I'm really confused... EF(#) is the JDM spec right? I didn't know it was diff for USDM... lol

So where is the list of spec codes?

Keep in mind, I drive a '89 Sedan... so what would that be?

Only USDM chassis codes for 4th gens we have are ED and EE, the number following is just what model.

ED3 is me... now, we return to your normally scheduled programming... again, sorry for jacking your thread.. but the answer to your question, short and sweet, is "No, they won't fit."

thanks guys, i wasnt sure if they did fit... its not the price.. its just that i have a set of two for my 93 Si Coupe, and my brothers(91Dx) are way worse.. so i thought i install them for him.. but wanted to make sure before i attempt the swap.
