Bogus Turbo?

This isn't a turbo: it's a cheapo supercharger! Anybody actually tried this thing?
It looks like it's just a fan stuck on the intake!
Anybody made one of these out of a desk fan?
Let's have some opinions, both knowledgeable and ignorant!

Looks like a leaf blower attached to the intake. I think it is BS just like the electric supercharger and the tornado...all gimmicks if you ask me.

I've never heard of the tornado! What is it?
Flunky
PS-Maybe we could make one out of a vacuum cleaner motor! Just get a DC/AC converter, and WHHHHHMMMM!!!!
Let's make one that REALLY sucks!

I don't know about the Tornado in particular, but I did have an '83 Suzuki GS750 E. It had "TSCC", which stands for Twin Swirl Combustion Chamber.
Something about the shape of the intake caused the air to swirl, which helped the fuel to mix better with the air, making the mixture more explosive. Creating a vortex would help create some power. I doubt that anything short of a completely redesigned intake manifold could truly achieve this, though.

Now, back to insulting the Bogus Turbo!

I know it was someone with a 4 door, and you must have posted in the thread where it was talked about before.

the Tornado and having like a High Swirl Combustion engine or anything else wtih "Swirl" are totally different. the torado says it does hte same thing but it is an air restriction, except in carbed cars, it does help.

those things would have to turn up some serious cfm to actual help and iven if that was tha case how would you prevent say boost spikes?

Looks like junk to me. How much increase in HP are u supposed to gain?

ummmm correct me if i'm wrong but dont turbos connect to the exhaust too? that looks like it just sucks in more air or something, seems really pointless

You are correct. Turbo refers to using the exhaust to make a turbine turn. That turbine is attached to another fan that blows, forcing more air into the intake.
This is not a turbo by any means.

PS-It is worth a pretty good chuckle, though. I nearly snorted coffee out my nose when I saw it. That's as close to a 'turbo' effect as this device gets.

Wouldn't you have to snort the coffe back into your mouth for tht to be a "turbo"? :ylsuper

There are tons of those electrochargers on the web most of the leaf blower parts you can get at Home Depot for like $30-$40. However there are small housing turbines, that are used in gas evacuation from a space, which can create pressures of up to 1 atmosphere (14.7psi). And when I say small, that is like a cylinder of 5 to 6 in diameter and 9 to 10 inches long. So in theory you could create an Electrocharger system with some serious boost. Of course you would have to address issues with "boost spikes," as well as coolant etc...

that "super charger" is so stupid, no mater how much air is blown in only so much air can go through the intake at a time anyways!!

HUH what do you think a turbo does "pushes more air into the intake creating more power"

IF IT WAS ONLY THAT SIMPLE!!!!!!!!!!

DUDE! Thats the whole idea! You use the coffie projected from your nose and buy the turbine attachment that runs to your nose... Then you cut a hole in your hood so you can see it! Its also coffie cooled! AMAZING! What will they think of next? Also has a second attachment for pasenger's nose which usualy gets a little more boost the first time but requires additional hood modifications.

Just the let you know the tornado if anything is to increase gass milage. But on the other hand it does add some poines to the car. My friend works at a dyno shop and got a tornado for a gift and decided to give it a try and on his 92 civic he got 5 extra hp from a little 80 dollar piece of metal. So case in point the tornado is no joke my friends this little thing does acually work and now they willl have one comming out for CAI.

Ohh and i forgot 5hp or even 10hp isnt something you would really notice to much!!!!

i have also heard that the tornado moves around in the intake tube, and can get jammed in there almost making it a barrier.

there was a article in a import mag i read awhile back and they gave this thing a shot. not the tornado but the little fan inside the intake tube. they dynoed the car and it LOSSED horsepower!!! end result was they took a hammer to it and said never to waste your time. but i am for certain that the tornado does increase gas milage by like 3-5 miles per gallon of corse if your not getting on it which i know nobody in here does

what is cfm
i found some fans on a site with like42 and 45 cfm?
is that good or bad for 97 accord engine.
also how much cfm does the engine suck in at around 3000 rpm?
thanks

My friend with a 2002 Ranger 4cyl bought the tornado a couple months ago. He actually paid $95 cause he couldnt wait to get and and paid extra for shipping. He was telling everybody how it is guranteed to make more horsepower and increase gas mileage. He swore that he could feel more power in his truck when he put it in, and his gas mileage decreasesd though. And if you have never seen the tornado, it looks like something that would not be too hard to make. But anyway, after a month with the tornado, he just ended up buyin a real intake for $210, and the tornado wouldnt fit in the new intake, so the $95 tornado is just sitting in his room now.
