Horn problem/Fuse Box question

Hi,
My horn stopped working and my mechanic tells me I don't have a fuse for it in my regular fuse box at the dash. Another mechanic told me I should have a fuse and the box would be under the hood. I've looked all over and brought it to him and he couldn't locate it. He also couldn't locate the horn relay.
I need to fix this for inspection and am trying to check for the most inexpensive fix first before bringing it to an electrical shop. He suggested I join a forum or two like he has and hope that someone out there has had the same problem and can tell me where to look.

There is a lot of variation from one model car to the next. You'll need to post the year, make and model of the vehicle in question to get much clear guidance.

Yes, there will need to be a fuse for the horn, although it may not be labeled just "horn." It could share a circuit with, say, the accessory port/cigarette lighter. There will also likely be a horn relay somewhere as it's impractical to run that much current through the steering column and to the horn pad in the steering wheel.

Also, you're fastest help may be to post to the forum specific to the make and model of your car rather than the general Engineering/Technical forum. That is, unless your goal was to determine just whether or not prudent design would be to incorporate a fuse and relay into the design.

Your private message indicated your car is a 1993 Chevy Caprice Classic sedan. According to the horn wiring diagram for your car, Fuse 1 in the fuse box should be a 15-amp fuse for the horn on your 1993 Caprice. Power goes from the fuse to the horn relay (orange wire to terminals E1 and E3 of the relay) which is located in what's called a "Convenience Center." When terminal E2 of the relay (black wire) is grounded via the horn switch in the steering wheel, the relay contacts should close and provide power via the dark green wire of relay terminal E5 to the two horn diaphragms.

Hmmm, I looked at another wiring diagram for a 1993 Caprice (more comprehensive, less specific to the horn) and it shows the horn power to the relay being provided via Fuse 16 (20-ampere).
