97 dakota backfiring

I have a 97 dakota slt V6magnum,I recently put in new plugs&ignition wires.The pcv valve is clean,carb is clean but I'm still having a problem with backfiring.HELP I'm starting to get frustrated.....

Was it doing it before you changed the plug wires ? If it was. since it's a 97 the timing chain is probably all done and has skipped a tooth or two. However You could also check the crank sensor and cam sensor.

THANKYOU angus10 no it was'nt backfiring before,I just purchased the truck and since my posting I discovered the distributor cap was loose and one of the screws is stripped,after I replace it I'll have the crank and cam sensors checked...thanks again..RASPUTINSS55

I would check that the replacement plugs are the same "heat range". Some plug ends will protrude more or less into the cylinder. Protruding more can cause the plug to run hotter while less will cause it torun colder. Also check that the ignition wires are of the same or better quality (repair manuals will have a maximum wire resistance). Too high resistance can result in a "colder" spark, causing incomplete combustion.

thanks fellas,i replaced distributor cap&rotor wires and plugs were recomend by dodge....she's purrin like a kitten....knock on wood!!!!
