There's definitely a need for custom made rims, not only for those who want aftermarket rims, but also for those who want different stock rims that the model manufacturers don't provide.

Do you know how to use 3D CAD? If so, make a model and save it in stl format, and send it to one of those rapid prototyping services. It'll cost about US$300. After that, you can cast the master with resin, and sell them to recover some of the cost.

There must be a mistake.

I searched for 3D printing service some time ago and for 1 cubic inch part they were charging under 30 USD if you were patient and didn't need it ASAP.

A fellow modeller in one of my forums has started a business catering to this market. He can produce custom wheels for a pretty good price.
