So i'm still having trouble. The engine [I]is[I] running better than it was, but its still "chugging" along although it seems to run fine at idle. Now this might have something to do with how vacuum to the EGR doesn't occur until you step on the gas correct? So does this mean that (1)I have a bad EGR or (2)I have a bad EGR solinoid? Can the EGR even cause this "chugging i'm experiencing when i drive along"? Two more things, the exhaust smells like its running really rich. And when i took off the EGR i noticed that the metal shaft does not protrude out the back of the thing like it showed in my Haynes manual. The new EGR that i bought even has the shaft sticking out about 1/4 of an inch as shown in the book so could my EGR not be opening or closing properly or is this just because the EGR on my car is original and things are different now? Is there a way to test the EGR and/or EGR solenoid?

hook up the vacuum gauge to the EGR vac line using a T fitting and with a long hose monitor vac.. while driving...

also what is manifold vac. when idling at 650 rpm in drive....this is the correct rpm....

also did you or anyone mess with the mixture screws under the front face of carb....if you can see the screws then someone messed up the mixture adjustments...

Aftermarket EGR valves have numerous flat washers and you have to use the size specified for the motor. I've noticed when they have to much flow it is very noticeable on a moderate grade. I always liked original equipment EGR valves as they are sized for your engine. It would be easy to miss this if you aren't looking for it.

Yea my EGR Valve is still suspect to be part of the reason my engine is not running the way I want. It came with like 8 washers and the instructions have you take a number from the original part but there was no egr on my car cuz the previous owner removed it so I installed it with no washer since I had no idea which to use and it ran better for like 2 days then started to go downhill and I plan on picking up another.

I only use factory valves. Sure, when I had to replace the valve on my car in '02, it cost $89 but it's a factory part and what the manufacturer designed for the specific engine/car combo.

Sure, they cost more up front, but as MT2500 always says, dealer parts only hurt once. :)

Yeah for my car i believe its #10 or something. I think that means the amount or thickness of washers i have to use i'm not really sure but i'll have to check the directions again

If you installed it with no washer I'm certain this is a problem. They normally are sized as to hole diameter. Look at the directions normally it will be for engine size 5.0L and ect. Maybe 305cu in double check again.

It actually calls for the original part number off the egr valve. I had no egr valve and when i called the dealer they gave me some crazy ass part number that didn't match teh numbers in the instructions so I just threw it on.

I did a v-6 for my son and one of his friends put one on with no washer. The outside diameter was bigger than some I had so I took a thin washer with a small hole and put it in and this took about 50% of the shake out. I drilled it out bigger and this was to much. I found another one and drilled it out with a smaller drill this took about 95% of the shake out. I told him if he wanted it better go to the dealer and buy a new one.
This is your option try until it works or go to a junk yard and get the number.
Ask somebody on the forum for the number if you want it to run properly.
You can also go buy a new one from the dealer.

I've already bought a new one its just i don't know if i want to install it yet if i don't need it. The stock EGR seems to be functioning fine but right now i really think the fuel pump is the issue.
