Well i bought a 98 Montana instrument cluster because I wanted a tachometer since the base Venture didnt get one and so I got one off ebay. Easy install and got cool red lights and a better crisper font on the printing the did for the lettering and it all worked.

Was your replacement cluster from an 1998 Montana? And were the connections identical (just plug and play)?

Yes, my old cluster says venture base on the circuitry fabric on the back of the cluster. The new one said ''Olds/Pontiac'' and another word denoting the trim level. there is the same connectors in my base dash as what the sellers sent me cut when they pulled it. If you wanted to, like 6 screws separates the parts of the cluster and you can swap the odometer easy as they snap to the inside of the panel. I didnt like how loose GM left it so I glued it down with liquid nails project clear tube. They really skimped on quality here. I will post pics tonight.

I did remove the red filters from behind the odometer and trip meter, but I had glued them together and after powering them on, I probably would have left them in, oh well.
