Hi All
I come from the land downunder Australia, can anyone HELP with my dilemma?
After a long trip last weekend we started to near a noise coming from the front wheel something that sounded like a piece of rubber rubbing against the tyre, it was in time with the wheel rotation and the ABS light came on, after stopping for 2 hrs and starting again the noise had gone or so we thought the longer we drove the louder the sound got. On checking the tyres, breaks and bearings etc I could see nothing wrong. 2 days later the noise came back louder than it had every been and smoke started to co. me from that wheel, the only display on the dash was check gauges. This all happened to my wife while I’m working away from home, I will not be home for another 10 days so I’m looking for ideas for when I get home
Have you heard of anything like this before,
Could it be the ABS sensor rings and sensors on that wheel? If so could you give me a price on them as well
Any help or Ideas of what to look for when I get home would be great.

It's hard to say, what year is your jeep. If its newer, than the abs I believe is incorporated in the hub bearing. I would recommend to take it to a good shop, or stop driving it till you get home. sounds like either the hub has gone bad( this would trip the ABS light) or the brake caliper is hung up on the rotor( this would cause the smoke) To rule out the bearing, just simply jack that side up and check for anymovement in the tire, turn the wheel by hand, listening for any growling or ruff sounds.

Hi gtmud
Thanks for the reply. No me wife won't be driving it til I get home and have abetter look at it. The model is a WJ late '99 I think the sensors and sensor ring are seperate to the hub, we have already checked the bearings and brakes and all seemed to be OK, I will check them again on my return home but what would you think would explain the noise?
