Well after i get this thing running right, the question is how can i make it faster? I understand this engine will never really win a race, but anything to make it a little more fun? I already have dual exhaust in mind which will only make it sound better really, but what else could i do?

Dual exhaust will help a little on the economy side. It doesn't always make it 'sound better' either - most factory dual setups sound JUST LIKE the single setups - quiet.
You can use a cam that produces more low-end torque for grunt off the line. Aside from that, there's not much more you can do. The 305 until TBI was an absolute slug in these cars - great for Mom to go shopping in, but not good for someone who likes a car to move.

I'm suprised fuel injection over a carb would make that much of a power difference.

Part of it is the roller cams these engines have, but the other part is the fuel mixture is much more controlled. It can be tailored to any engine RPM vs. the carburetor which pulls at a given rate no matter what the load is.
