1996 grand am, 2.4 cylinder. Problem started approximately 3 weeks ago. I'll be driving and get a dead pedal feeling. The rpm's will drop down then all of sudden it will take off again. Now it won't start at all. It turns over and want to start but it just won't stay running.

Start by checking the fuel pressure.

Just a stab in the dark but one problem that occures is the instrument cluster will go out. It's non repairable but fairly easy to replace with one from a junk yard. If your fuel pressure checks out and you can find no other problems, it might be worth half a Saturday or so to try this. Just remember to take the ODO off your old cluster and install it onto the "new" one for legal reasons and be prepared for the anti-theft to prevent startup. If this happens, there are posts here with instructions so I won't repeat them right now.
As I said this is just one possible idea and might not even be the cause of your problem. Good luck.

I've changed my fuel filter and fuel pump and have had no luck. still won't start sometimes and when it does run I get a bogging out feeling. RPM's will drop then all of sudden the car will take off again.

My crank position sensor wires were damaged by a rabbit chewing on them and they shorted together and caused a similar problem.
