Power window electrical issue

Hi my 2001 S10 seems to have an electrical issue with the power windows.
When I bought the car, the drivers power window would inexplicably just quit working, half the time up or down. It seemed slamming the door a few times you could sometimes get it to work. Now its dead stuck down of course. When i press the switch, no noise at all beyond the slight mechincal click of the switch itself. I pulled the switch assembly up, I have 12V coming out to what appears to be the output wire for the driver window. Now the rear driver side window stopped working too, but the passenger windows work fine so i must have power to the switch. And the switch output to the passenger (good) windows looks about the same (12V) as the bad ones when i operate them.
Does anyone have a suggestion? I gues the switch output wires so back out of the door thru the boot? Could these be messed up? Or does the drivers window output stay in the door? Is it possible the switch is bad even thought the voltages look good?
Tanks in advance, Jim

Welcome to AF.
The switch reverses power and ground on the wires to the window motor for up and down.
Check for 12 power switching on the wires to the motor for up and down.
If power on one then check the other wire for ground.
Then switch the switch the other way and do the same thing.
Switch should reverse power and ground wire.
If you have power and ground and if motor is good it should run.

Thanks for your reply
I pulled apart the door and tried probing the motor connector, it is fairly difficult to probe with the leads i have. It seems to have about 0.3V or so volts across it best i can tell when activated.
Then i unplugged the connector, still could not get a 12V reading across the two leads when unplugged from the motor.
Then i tried jumping 12V and gnd to the disconnected motor to see if it would turn, apparently a bad idea i just get sparks like a short, maybe i damaged something. Maybe i need a resistor to do this or somewthing?
Now the switch unit makes a distick clicking sound with clicks about 1 sec apart when i activate it whether the motor is plugged in our not. But, the passenger windows still work. Unfortuanately i am not sure i isolated wheter switch or motor

Sounds like you put power to a grounded wire.
Best to unplug switch before trying to jump motor wires.
Unplug motor and then check for 12 volts and ground when switching the switch.
If go to switch and see if it is feeding 12 power and ground to the window motor.
Good Luck
