Drove a Metro today!

Today I drove a Geo Metro that a friend is borrowing while his car is in the shop.
The car only had 106,000 miles but smoked so much you'd think it was on fire. Otherwise, the interior was very big for such a small car, lot's of rattles - that 3 cylinder engine is buzzy. One thing that I thought was weird is that it weighs less than my Yugo, and if you've ever had a Yugo and a Metro side by side you know that the Yugo was a tad bit smaller.
Just curious, is anybody sad that the Metro is no longer imported?

Thanks.

I got passed by one of those Metros while I was driving my mom's Tourus. Possibly the worst day of my life.

Well, they did get good gas mileage, but other than that (IMHO) N-O!!! I had one as a rental for a week. It was dangerously slow, and on the interstate it got blown around by the wind (no exaggeration). 55MPH was like flirting with death.

Really, I thought smaller cars where not affected by the wind because of their size?

My DeLorean is "small" but maintains stability at high speeds because of aerodynamic design & wide tires. The Geo Metro, although "round-like" allows too much air to go under the vehicle - starts to work like an airplane's wing to create lift. Now combine that with little overall vehicle weight & tall/skinny tires... :help:

If the vehicle was lowered, air dams were placed all around and the vehicle was outfitted with wider wheels - THEN you could increase handling dramatically (hence the popular trends of lowering/boadykits/rims). You still won't have the power, though.

Make it faster?, other than pushing it over a cliff you could do an engine swap. The Geo Metro and the Suzuki Swift are the same car, except the Swift was available with bigger engines, if you could locate a low mileage 4-cylinder swift engine (say a car that got rear-ended and totalled when nearly new) you could bolt it in and have some extra speed and horsepower.

if you found a ford aspire you could swap it out and get slightly less mpg (34-42) and gain .3 leters and get 20 more hp also a festiva engine will work although its carbrated although i'd like to put a yamaha v6 cycle engine in one but if you are a 3 cyl fanitic you could try a subaru justy engine 63 hp

slap on a new exhaust, some rims that are way to big and some type R stickers and you have the fastest car out there

na you guys are getting it all wrong.
FIRST you put the big "powered by honda" sticker wich adds 50 hp and 20 tq to anything that isnt a honda...
Then you slap on a few type r badges (oh man a type r geo that makes my side hurt. I can see the advertising: Now with one more extra cylinder!)
Then you get the mirror tint and 23 in rims and lower it for "EXTREME" handling like when your picking up grocerys and some kid runs out in front of your car and you have to swerve.
Then youll be set to go!
