Fuel leak

I have a fuel leak top side of the tank. Before I drop the tank to pinpoint the problem does anyone have a suggestion of what to look at, there are some fuel lines that run through there and I here a faint high pitch whine that I assume is the fuel pump.

Most likely a rusted line. If it is, I'd replace both of them all the way to the front of the car. Replace the filter too.

The lines are rusted. I was going to replace the filter and noticed some one had tried before and kinked the line a little bit but it doesn't seem to be leaking there, I'll replace it all any ways but I had to pull it out of the garage to day because the fumes where getting bad, backed it out into the drive where it is at an incline and it started dripping pretty good looks like the tank is busted what do you think.

It's hard to tell, usually if the tank leaks it will be along the seams. If I were you, I'd poke the rusty spots pretty hard with a screwdriver once you get the tank out. If it's solid, just leave it, I've seen lots of tanks that look worse than that that didn't leak.

Sounds like a plan. If need be Auto Zone has tanks for $108 and a lock ring for another $16, figure while I'm at it I'll take care of the rusty line's to. Thanks for the replies I'll give an update when I can.

One last question is there anything unexpected to look out for when I go to drop the tank.

Jack the car up (always use safety stands)
Relieve fuel pressure
Disconnect all lines to the tank
Unbolt straps
Wiggle the sucker out of there
Move pump to new tank
Install new tank
Also I was thinking a new lock ring for the pump would be a good idea. Any thoughts?

Hello jason,if your not sure where the leak is try loosening the tank straps to allow the tank to drop enough to see the lines etc.now with everything still hooked up turn key on & ck for leak.you can run engine if needed just make sure everything is secure jack/stands etc.Good Luck

This almost makes me glad my fuel tank is plastic. Until I have to drive my car out of a burning building onto the roof of another building to escape the bad guys. >.<
