98 regal AC Electrical problem

hello all,

i am new to the forum and looking forward to it.

i have a 98 Regal GS w/ about 130k miles.

the other day the car would not start and acted like it had a dead battery. i jumped it and moved on. later that day, i noticed a clicking sound under dash, i assume from the "convenience center", and it was dead again. this time it would not take a jump, and when i got under the hood, there was a lot of clicking coming from the under hood fuse and relay box. eventually i took off the battery cables and retightend them and the car started and i got home. i replced the battery and made sure all the connections were very clean.

now everything starts and runs fine except the AC is acting crazy:
The auto control doesnt work at all.
The fan control is intermittant - sometimes works, sometimes doesnt.
Temperature control seems to do nothing.
When is does work - it goes from blowing cold air to hot air for no reason at all.

Hoping someone might know of the simple relay or control module that i have appear to have offended and where i might find it.

thanks

Welcome to AF.

Jump starting is not a good idea. Not only can it damage electrical components but also the PCM module. The battery issue can cause the ACC (automatic climate control) and the temp actuators to get whacky.

One corrective procedure is to remove the battery negative cable for several minutes and then reconnect. You may have to repeat a few times. But before doing this make sure the ACC unit is turned off manually first.

Thanks. As it turns out, getting the control unit reprogrammed solved the problem. luckily this time i was able to get it done without costing a lot.
