CV Boot

I have a 96 Maxima and just recently notice that the outer cv boot in the driver side is rip and also notice grease on top of the caliper. How hard is it to replace it I have the knew cv boot including the grease and clamps. Any suggestion on how to replace it

Not too tough, but it also depends on how long you have been operating with the tear. If water or contaminants have gotten into the CV joint, you will want to replace/repair that as well. It isn't worth going through the whole procedure of putting a boot on if you have to do it again in a month because the joing is bad. How much mechanical experiance do you have?

O.K I do have some knowledge not much but enough to do the work and been driving the car for a week now since I noticed the problem. Its there any special tool I may need to do the work.

"100 miles" is enough to get sand in and grinding to start :( ... will grind the joint surface during next few kmiles. (Grease on caliper means more than "100 miles".) Then the joint starts to go and will be heard = Patching over with new boots is useless when the sand is already in.
As u dont (?) know how long boots have been ripped, replace the joint...
On the market there are quite a few axles that are sold for maxima. Problem is, some 'fit' in but start dropping off from bores later or whatever complications. U need a mech pro to make sure the replacements are exactly equal.

^^ I would go with this suggestion. Since I am not up on the Maxima I cannot tell you for sure. With my Sentra I simply replaced the entire half shaft. It is relatively inexpensive and much easier to accomplish than tearing apart the joint.

Well guys thank you for all the input. I did the work today replaced the cv boot and let me tell you that it wasn't that bad. It took me about an hour to pull out the shaft, look at the joint and seem o.k no need for replacement which is good put everything back together but it took me about 2 1/2 hour to finish the work took it for a drive test and its o.k. Once again thank you for the input.

Been t here, "seen" t hat -and- hoping [on the worn joints]...
Its good exercise to add new grease and renew a boot, this possibly adds few more kmiles - before the joint cracking sound arrives.
