Excess Black exhaust

OK, i know that preludes are known to emit the black carbon in the exhaust. But since i added my CAI, headers, and full exhaust it has gotten much worse. That can't be right and there has to be a way to fix this. My exhaust smells like it's running rich too so i'm not burning all the gas in the cyclinders. Plus it just makes it hard to keep clean. If anyone has had this problem or if you know a way to fix it let me know.

The best thing for you to do at this point is to reset the ECU-by pulling the fuse for it for about 15 minutes. Make sure that you have the RADIO CODE before hand-or you will pay the dealer to tell you what it is.

With that idea out of the way, you need to decide whether you have a bad O2 sensor (Is the CEL on). A diagnostic will pinpoint why you are running too rich. Another thing - you say that you have an odd smell-could it be that all of your new exhaust parts are just that--really new and the chemicals used are still burning off. Exhausts do have oils on them from the manufacturing process. The amount of soot on the exhaust may appear to have increased if you have polished tips. Has the car ever been tuned up with plugs, wires, cap and rotor and the timing checked-if not maybe it is time for that based in part on your driving style and mileage.

Good Luck

Thanks.....i'll try the fuse and maybe diagnostic check. I'm pretty sure it's not the parts cause they have been on for almost a year now and they never really smelled bad......It's just that since i got them on the car has been running rich and a lot more black carbon is coming out the back.

Black exhaust deposits are pretty normal. If the check engine light is not on DON"T bother taking it to the dealership for diagnostics, they won't find anything. If the car runs ok everything that has to do with the exhaust deposits is controlled by the ECU and not adjustable!!! Live with it!!!
