Rear Pinion Seal Ford F150 06

:confused: I was trying to change my rear pinion seal but ran into a prob.HHHHHHHow do you do it?

You will need some special tools.
Like a big air wrench and ft lb torque wrench and inch lb torque wrench.
Some of the pinion nuts and pinion bearings are set to a pre load.
If not done right you can mess the rear end.
If you do not have the tools or knowledge on rear ends it would be best to let a repair shop do it.

While the instructions are the correct way I've changed a lot of them. You will need a 13mm 12 point socket to remove the drive shaft. These bolts take a 12 point socket. A chain wrench or big pipe wrench to hold the yoke as you use a big socket probably 27mm to loosen the nut.
Before you loosen the nut put a long 1/2 ratchet with the proper socket on the nut. Set it even with the axle watch how fast it moves downward probably very slowly or stays the same. Add a small amount of weight if necessary so it drifts downwards. The tighter it is the harder it is to move.
Anyway you want it the same as it was when your done. I always used a good quality seal but not a dealer item. I would replace the transmission seal while I had it apart.
Ford used to use a crush bushing but it adds to the cost and labor. I never had to do more than one on my own vehicles and never had a comeback in the garage. This was any I done or my mechanics who never used a torque wrench on them either. If you don't do a lot of your own work you may want to farm it out.

The seal is probaly a dealer part only and is not from the aftermarket yet.Some parts are not aftermarket yet for 2004 and up.Seen this happen on a 2001 Cadillac Catera,the rear pinion seal was only from the dealer only and nothing from the aftermarket.

06? I wonder if it was still under warranty. Maybe not, must have a lot of miles on it, seems odd for an 06 to be leaking at the pinion seal.
