How many hours are on the Hobbs Meter?

How many hours are on the Hobbs Meter?
The meter reads 1038. I know some will think this is excessive, but it was a non-factor for me when I bought the car b/c I had it throughly inspected for frame/chassis repairs/issues and found none. Most of these cars have been rebuilt as some point in time. The record books I have from Panoz show a $21k rebuild at 753 hours.
Another member posted a fact as well, that some have changed the Hobbs meter to reflect lower hours. I'd rather just be honest, I have the documentation to back me up.
Thanks for the question, let me know if you have any others.

I see you have GT-2 on the car. Are Panoz GTRA's legal GT-2 cars?

This is the class they assigned to it upon inspection/log book by SCCA SARRC region.

GTS cars (450hp) are GT2 in SCCA and are pretty competitive. They have a hard time with the Porsche GT3 (Cup cars) but can hold up against most others.
The GTRA cars are not "true" GT2 cars, but it seems that you might get it on track at a regional event as there isn't much knowledge or oversight (Panoz = Panoz?).
The GTRA cars are MUCH slower than the GTS (GT2) cars so not much of a contest. A good Miata will kill a GTRA.
I'm waiting to see someone convert a GTRA to GTS (450 hp spec 351W [$15k], Penske shocks, springs, sway bar, diff. cooler) would get it close except this is $15-20 swap and there are some GTSs out there used that would be a safer bet...maybe. It would be very interesting if Panoz would grant a GTS ID plaque for the conversion. The GTSs come with a SCCA log book and rule set.

Very good points. I agree that the GT-2 class is not the best place for the GT-RA, really just the only place they could put the car sice their release to the public. So it would be difficult to be ultra-competitive in this car/class, but its a good/inexpensive way to get a track-ready car w/ a SCCA log book to get some seat time.

stayed tuned.... there are rumors that Panoz may have some new classifications out there, "factory approved", to make these cars "fit" better, and also with a few flavours in terms of horsepower and so forth. With that, and some other "official" specifications, I think this would be essential and give more visibility to the cars as a whole.

I'm new to the forum but have been lurking in the shadows and reading posts in an effort to learn a little about these cars for a while now.
It was my understanding that the RA cars did not have DOM cages in them. If so, the last I knew SCCA (and NASA) would not approve a cage that was not DOM. If it has passed an annual tech and gotten a log book, is that to say that the RA cars (at least some) may have DOM cages? That was one reason that, as I began looking for one of these, I tended to shy away from the RA and toward the WC. Any insight would be appreciated.

Good info - thanks!
That post would seem to confirm my point of DOM versus in ERW in RA cars as it points out that changes were made to the WC cars from the RA cars with "The most important of these was the switch from 1.75 OD x .090 wall ERW to 1.75 OD x .090 DOM tubing on all the round tubes in the chassis (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=879952&highlight=DOM+tubing#).
Given that, I'll continue to presume that the RA cars will have ERW tubes and therefore not be able to pass (NASA/SCCA) tech and get a fresh log book.

Maybe I picked the wrong thread to point you to. I'm having a hard time finding the right one. The thread discussed changes to the GTRA cars throughout there production. The early cars were made with the ERW cages. When the GTS cars started to be produced, they went to DOM on the RA as well. The reason stated was they didn't want to stock 2 different kinds of material.
Look at post 5 in this thread. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=879439&highlight=dom+roll+bar

Yes, the link you provided basically stated that all RA cars had ERW cages. I think there are many out there that are associated to these cars that know that this is not correct and at times these cars may have been pieced together with whatever materials were available at the time.
Regardless, I can tell you that my GT-RA was inspected in July at Road Atlanta and was deemed to have DOM tubing and issued a valid 2008 SCCA log book. It is ready to be put on the track, no further prep/tech needed.

Mine also has DOM tubing. I was inspected and issued a NASA log book (ST-2 class because I ditched the FI and went with AFR heads and a Carb). Does any one else have a NASA log book and did you have problems with the position of the diagonal cross-bar that is in the car ?

The cage in the GTRA cars is identical to the GTS cars so it will pass SCCA tech. We drilled mine and checks fine. You could put a nasty motor in a GTRA car and run it in SP.....stilll wouldn't win races, but would be good "cheap" fun. SP is the most unlimited SCCA class so some very angry cars here, but it would be legal and you would be in the same run group as the GTS cars, Vipers etc.
