1993 f150 resonator?

i had just put on my glass pack on my 1993 4.9L 300ci straight 6 engine ext./super cab and it is too quiet of a sound. i want to take the resonator off so it will be louder. what does the resonator do? does it help with the cat?/emissions? what kind of gas mileage will i get with it off?

Were you calling the cat a resonator at first? Only resonator I know of in exhaust is a resonating tip. Just curious.

How's it sound? I've had couple 4.9's. Love that engine.
