Coolant Tube O-Ring

I had my Geo back together this past weekend. I filled it up with coolant & left it setting from Saturday til yesterday. I noticed yesterday that a coolant was leaking directly below where the tube goes into the block. It had leaked 3/4 of the coolant out of the reservoir just sitting.

I did not replace the old O-ring. I reused it. It LOOKED OK but it was less elastic than the new O-ring I just got. I have not installed it yet. Is it always necessary to replace that ring when it is removed? Is there anything that needs to be put on the new ring before I install it like a silicone grease?

The O-ring will slide into the water pump easier if you wet it with coolant first.

Seriously, it works great for O-rings. I just changed mine about a month ago. There is the bolt at the trans holding the tube and another one hidden under the intake holding the tube in place.

I put the new ring on last night & it STILL leaks:banghead: I think the O-ring is too small. What is the correct o-ring size? The one that I took off MAY have been to small to begin with. This car is very frustrating. It seems NO ONE keeps parts for them. :shakehead

I just rebuilt my 95 1.0 and have a leak somewhere also. Some o-rings came in the gasket set, the old one was way to loose and swolen . The new one apeared to be same thicknes. Mine is driping of the cat. converter.

Could the mounting brackets get slightly bent and keep the tube from seating all the way into the water pump?

Maybe. I bought another O-ring that has the same inner diameter but is thicker. I hope this fits better. Mine is a very small drip.

I got an O-ring from a standard shop O-ring kit. I made sure it fit snug and was fat enough to seal. Sometimes you can take an O-ring to a parts store and have them match one up for you.
