Broken hood release

Hi, yet again, lol. Always something.

My hood release lever is jacked. The cable apparently ripped free of the cotter pin piece inside the lever (that pops the hood). I can't see the cable at all, it has detracted inside the cable housing.

I'm reading on how to pop the hood, but that aside... do I need to order a new hood release kit? Or do you guys think this is repairable by afixing a new cotter pin to the end of the cable (assuming I can get it back out).

P.S., any advice to get hood open? Hard to see what is what under the front with a flashlight and a screwdriver.

Thanks

On the cable inside cab.
Try to trim some of the outside off down past the inside cable and take a pair of vice grips and see if you can pull it and get it open.
If not.
Some times you can take a long screwdriver from front of grill and hook and pull the hood release.

Get a new cable for sure.
Good Luck

Thanks MT. Do they sell the cable/lever as a single unit or does the cable come with the "cotter pin" (not sure what to call it) that holds it in the lever.

My lever is intact, just cable came out of the pin and recessed into cable housing.

BTW, is it simply tying the new cable to the old and pulling it through with help?

Found a post that has me worried:
"I ended up having to take mine to a dealership. No one will touch it because of the complexity of the airbag system in the bumper. No one will go into the steering system either, due to the airbag system. I am having trouble with my horn now. They say there is a short in the steering wiring, but I will also have to use a dealership for this. UMMMMMM looks like they made these things for dealership repairs only. Just another way to keep us spending at their repair shops. Good luck!!!!!!!!!! "

Sounds unlikely, but what do you think?

Not sure on it.
Dealer parts place may be able to help on it.
