A few questions about engine life

All,

I have a 1997 Silverado, K1500. It has 291,600ish miles on it right now and still runs great. Now as I understand it, this is a hell of a lot of miles on a vehicle (My old one died before it even got to 200,000) and I can't expect it to run forever. How long would be a safe estimate? I take excellent care of this thing, oil and filters are checked bi-weekly (I do a ton of driving) and I do all the standard stuff as well.

2nd question is about the purchase of a new engine. I want to keep this truck, I really like the frame a lot and I already OWN it so...yeah. How much could I expect to pay for a newer crate engine for a truck like this? I hear the new ones will fit and they are hands down much better engines than the one I am using. Which is interesting considering how many miles I have on mine.

Thanks all,

Chase

because you do a lot of driving I would get a new vehicle and continue with the proper maintanence .....as you run this vehicle into the ground save for new...your new vehicle will use less gas and maybe it will be e85...fuel....

any money spent on this 1997 should only be for minor repairs....when engine or transmission goes,,, fa getta bott it....

just because you have no vehicle payments doesn't mean it's a good idea to dump money into a vehicle this old with you high mieage driving when fuel will be 5-7.00 /gallon....

are you smart cheap or stupid cheap....???think carefully

here's a totally opposite idea: it is always cheaper to keep a good, paid for car, than to buy a new one. period. even at a higher fuel cost, how much driving will it take to offset the purchase?
if you are not putting a lot of strain on that engine, under proper maintenance and driving habits, it'll run long time.
is it taking oil?
check cylinder compression. if it's within the specs, than just keep driving. if engine is not taking oil and compression is good - than you are BLESSED with a good one and just keep being nice to it.
even when you'll start losing compression, i'd still consider DIY rebuilt instead of buying a whole engine. you know, you don't really even have to pull the engine out to rebuild it?

re read his post he wants a newer engine not the old type in his vehicle now...also he puts lots of miles on vehicle...and has lots on it....he has definately beaten the odds....why put a few thousand in a vehicle this old ?
