How much gas do you have in a 1997 ford explorer when the low fuel light comes on?

If the light and sending unit is correct, you will have somewhere between 2 and 5 gallons. Hard to tell the exact amount.

Keep in mind that the fuel pump relies somewhat on fuel in the tank to help cool it, so if you consistently run the tank down to fumes, the fuel pump will probably fail sooner.

My 2000 Mountaineer has the status computer which gives the low fuel indication with 50 miles "Distance to empty." That would come out to about 2.5-5 gallons depending on the fuel economy at the time.
