Have you checked distributor pick up or crankshaft position sensor (not sure which the '87 uses) for signal? Did you do any work on the car just prior to this no-start condition occurring?

no prior work was done, i was driving it regular (not hot rodding it) at the time and at an idle for about ten minutes before it died the car would drop rpms to about 200 rpms and then come right back to normal (1000 rpms) without shutting off copletely then the one time it died and its been without spark since.

I think you need to check the pickup coil on the distributor shaft to make sure it's not going open. The pickup is what triggers the ignition module to fire the coil. If you have a good coil with power and a good ground to it, and you haven't dinked with the wiring, along with a good ignition module which you just installed, the pickup coil is about the only thing left.
I trust you're checking for spark right at the coil and aren't using a possibly bad coil wire.
