Welcome to the forum!
Which engine does your car have? Are you planning to do the work yourself? Are you looking for a procedure and listing of any special tools needed, or just a generic "replace the seal" response?

This is actually my son's car. He lives in another state and called me and asked for help. The engine is a 3L V6. My son would like to do the job himself since he is short of funds....just bought a house. Any help as to procedure and tools would be greatly appreciated. He has traced the problem to the crankshaft gasket or to front gasket of the oil pan. Thank you for any help that you can give me. It is greatly appreciated. Is this a job that he could do himself or is it too complex?

Nancy,
All 01 Taurus' have a 3.0L V-6. One is a pushrod called Vulcan and the other is a 24 valve high performance called Duratech. The 24 valve equipped car is easily identified by a "24V" emblem on the side of the front fender.
My advice is that if he looks at the problem and calls his mother for help and instructions, he probably should not tackle this problem unless you are a proficient auto technician.
