VTEC stronger in some years?

my girl was racing her stock 95 EX against a 2000 EX. they were side by side until her VTEC kicked in and she left the newer EX. someone told her that her VTEC is stronger than in the newer EX's. is this true?

it may be, all i know is that when i drove my buddies 2000 ex i noticed the kick but then when i got back into my 2002 ex you cant feel nothing.

Well ive had a 2000 ex vtec and a 2002 ex vtec and drove a 95 ex vtec ....... Truthfully the 95 engine screamed more with the intake so it sounds like its faster but we ran that car in 1/4 and our best time was 16.3 and my 2000 my best time was 16.5 and when i had my 2002 my best time was 16.29999999....and i would race other people with same cars as listed and from what i could tell u can feel 95's vtec but in speed my 2002 was faster.....and these were all sticks not automatic..... so the way i see it is on the person driving the car!!!

stronger VTEC in a SOHC? no matter the year, u'll BARELY even feel anything with a SOHC VTEC motor. less o2 sensors in the older versions mean it will be a LITTLE less restrictive in its air flow, but as for the VTEC pulling hard... its not going to be enough for her to "leave" a newer EX.

SOHC VTEC is weak. A tailwind will give it a better boost.
Whats even worse is when people plaster "SOHC VTEC" all over their cars. Give me a break.
As far as the different years go, I suppose it's possible but KrNxRaCer00 is right is saying you would't "leave" the other car. Maybe the other guy hit the brakes.

oh yeah sohc vtec is weak as hell u really dont even know its engaged..... Only thing i see it doing which is a difference with lx and dx's is that it doesnt slow down it keeps its momentum to where with dx and lx once u get to high rpm's they tend to slow down....and for the vtec on a 99-00 si compared to 02-03 is a HUGE difference as in sound, the way it engages.......02-03 doesnt kick in hardly at all on the new si's as a matter of fact i seen it stock run 15.9 which isnt bad but ive seen 99-00 run 15.5 stock......but then at same time ive also seen 99-00 si's run 16.3-16.2 so it really depends......but ive drove both been in both seen both at raceways and heard the intakes on both and i think the 99-00 is a whole lot better!! just the way the vtec really has that KICK on the 00 models is ridiculous!!:frog:

well...its cuz IVTEC puts it througout the powerband, not jus at the engagement point (like the b-series motors do). tru...its nice to FEEL that kick...but in the long-run, i'd rather have more usable power throughout then jus after a certain point. thas my only compaint...i have to sit an wait for VTEC to engage for me to have any real power...befoer that, its dead....grrrr....i need turbo...(yes i kno it takes to spool, but still...haha :D )

true true cause my ex's always hung with those 00 and lower si's until the vtec kicked in....shoot we'd be neck in neck then the vtec would always put it ahead...so i understand that but coming from a person who always had nothing but sohc cars and not riding too much in the dohc vtec cars ya gotta love the dohc vtec kick!!! shit i cant wait really i have 2 1/2 weeks until i take my car into the shop for them to install my b16 im still waiting on ecu and tranny but thats it....i have my appointment with them on the 28th to bring it in... once i receive my car back ill make sure i post how much of the difference i feel from my CX motor in my hatch!!!

I'm getting a 93 hatch back dx in about a week or so... all this talk about vtec makes me want to swap my d15b7 for at least an sohc vtec... *sigh* either way it'll be an improvement from my 91 4dr dx.. that thing was so slow...plus the auto tranny wasn't helping.. the manual tranny in the 93 hatch back dx should be fun though... at least until I can get the swap.

Ok i've never driven a DOHC v-tec, but as far as the sohc vtec engines go.... i can't feel the extra 22hp that they are supposed to be over the d15b7... i test drove a few 95 coupes, ex stick, and im surprised that my car pulls harder than those. Even tough it doesnt have v-tec, its faster. U mya think im bullshitting u just to make my car look good, but im just saying this so i can express my dissapointment. I didnt even feel the v-tec kick in on the coupes. Hell my dad was with me on one of those test drives and even he said that my car feels faster!! Maybe its cause i changed the engine with one imported from Japan, its got low miles and im not sure but someone said the compression is slightly higher than the american D15B7... Anyways bottom line is my car is pretty much stock under the hood and i beat sohc vtecs whenever i race them, how can one explain that?:bloated:

Sounds like a case for the X files. Just seems to rediculous. I've never lost to a sedan even w/ my old d16z6. Do the laws of physics cease to exist in your engune bay?

No, but considering the amount of commone sense the avg. person has nowadays, it is safe to assume that the laws of physics are taking their toll under most hoods of people's car. And what i mean is basic fuckin maintenance, my engine runs strong as hell not only cuz i do all the maintenance ahead of time but also cuz i go the extra notch in keeping it running smoothly.
And if u mean to be rude, spare me your bullshit and if u dont believe me that i run stronger than other stock sohc vtecs, then dont comment at all cuz u havent seen my car u havent driven it and u cant make an argument saying this is bull on the basis on assumption itself. Aaaaight?

all of you guys are talkin about hp this, maintenance that. understand thats not what makes you faster then anyone else. the driver is 90% of the race if youre racing someone with a car thats similar to yours in power. i mean even when theyre not similar, would you believe ive seen a hyundai with IHE and a 35 shot of nos destroy a boosted gsr? believe it. know why? they hyundai driver has a reaction time average of .5 sec(back when .4 was the limit. now its 0.0). thats almost professional reaction times there. and the guy he raced was some little punk with money that thought he could beat everyone with his tubro teg. the hyundai beat him by about a second. now you may be faster then those other sohc vtecs on the street merely because they stink at driving or because your better. but not because your car is any faster.

::nods:: street racing=all driver (unless u have a stock civic vs a svt cobra or something of the sort...)

It may be all driver but saying a stock non-vtec 4door can beat a stock vtec 2door is a bit far fetched. Let's say both drivers are a little off, there is more than a 10 hp difference there. " You can fool some people sometime but you can't fool all the people all the time ".

Just a little fact to throw in here, assuming the 99-00 civic Si/del sol VTEC (b16) engines have a "louder, meaner vtec" than the new civic Si's is correct.
The new civic Si has INTAKE CAM VTEC ONLY. that is the reason the rsx type s has 200hp and civic si has 160hp and they both have a k20a engine.
b16 vtec screams.

Ok thats pretty obvious that the driver makes a big difference. But i was saying how ive driven a few coupes with v-tec, and they just dont pull as hard as my "4 door non vtec". And by the way 4 door sedans dont have a big difference in weight compared to coupes, u can check it out for yourself instead of starting an argument abt taht too.
I think it really is cuz of the engine, i think it may be a higher compression ratio, since it's imported from japan and they have slightly different specs. Anyone know for sure?
I know my car and i know that it continues to pull hard all teh way to 6800 when it cuts off, it pulls even harder after 3800, as if it has vtec even tough it doesnt.... maybe i was just lucky with this engine? :D

my girl just got a 99 eclipse, the special oz racing one, with the wing on the back and rims, and that shit is dirt slow, i coud beat it in my old 4 door dx civic, it seems like the only fast clipses are the turbo ones. (not to hate on you, just the mentioning of it got my thinkin about her eclipse

I've got a 2000 EX, and its VTEC is practically nothing compared to my mom's old 96 Prelude. That engine was stock as hell and you could feel and hear it soooo much more then a civic. The best part was that if you really put your foot in it, the gas gauge (which was electronic in those days) would always move down a notch.
I remember I went on my first date with this chick in my mom's prelude and of course tried to show off in the fast car. I wound up fish tailing all over the road upon leaving the restaurant. I felt like an ass for sure. :D
