2001 Beetle Starts and dies right away need help?

My beetle Starts up and runs for 2 seconds then dies. I have tried taking the gas cap off and putting it back on. I have gone to the dealer and it wont do it for them. Any Advice?

sounds like its something to do with fuel supply - when you open the door the fuel pump primes the fuel system with enough fuel to start, then the car starts and oilpressure rises and closes a switch which then powers the fuel pump. Looks like yours is not getting fuel once the engine starts and it dies from lack of fuel....

To pick up on the other post, i.e. that it is a fuel problem, you may want to spray gas into the throttle body after it does the 2 second shut off. This procedure would give you a better idea if it is a gas problem. This operation may be difficult if you have the turbo model since you would have to pull the hose from the throttle body (intake manifold air inlet). If the air to/from the turbo is disrupted the car hardly runs.

could also be the immobilizer. watch the instrument cluster when it does this and see if a little light shaped like a key flashes.

Fuel pump relay switch is bad.
