Wire Wheels

Has anybody here had experience with knock off wire wheels? I found a good deal on some used ones and i love the way they look. Unfortunately, I'm in NYC so i don't have many smooth roads i come across on a daily basis. I know you have to check and tighten them on a regular basis no matter what. Should i not even bother getting them given the # of potholes i still manage to hit even though i dodge most of them? Also, if i do get them, should i look for anything in particular about the wheels since they are used?

I don't know about knock-off, but I know the actual stainless Caprice wire hubcaps come with a locking style fastener in the center that holds the hubcap to the rim regardless of how tight or loose the outer clips are.

The ones i'm referring to are Daytons. Anybody have advice on them?

You're all good with Daytons. Make sure they're real though, some people call any knock-off wire wheel a "Dayton". Only maintenance you got to do on those is bang the knock-off with a hammer everyonce in awhile just for peace of mind. And remember one side is lefty loosey and one is lefty tighty. What size/offset/car you puttin' them on?

I like the aftermarket rims with the Caprice Classic emblem in the middle. Ties them in nice.

they're going to go on a 1984 caprice. i know some will hate me for this but they're 20". I like they way they look and i wouldn't go the route of jacking the car up and putting huge wheels but i think the 20" will look just fine.

It's funny to me how 20" looks almost normal because I'm so used to seeing 24" and up nowadays.

Yea I'm a 18" or less person but 20" 100 spokes I can live with.

I've had and still have a set of 15" Sinister wires and I got these real cheap and brand new from a company out of Denver, Co.. The ad is in Lowrider Magazine. American Tire and Wheel is the company's name. I paid just $345.00 for a fresh set w/the 2" whitewalls and they came to my door mounted, balanced, and all hardware included. Free shipping in 3 days. I live in Buffalo, Ny. These guys have been in this mag forever and their feedback is outstanding. I liked the 15" look because they made my caprice look not only custom but very beefy. I'll have to post a pic so keep checking this thread.

I used to have the knock off ones because my real ones got lost or something. And they were crap. They faded and just looked terrible. I'm not sure what brand they were. I'd get the real ones because you can secure it to the rim so you'll never lose them on pot holes. And they look way better. Just look at my avatar below for an idea.

Dude......um, your avatars are showing hubcaps, those are not the kind of "knock-offs" I was talking about. The ones on the coupe and the and the '67 below your reply in the photos are legit knock-offs.
