99 Grand Am won't start in rain

Hi all,

I've had this problem for a number of years. I've taken it to GM and they can't find anything wrong with it in all the tests they've done. Everytime it rains, the car tries to turn over, then the red Security light blinks over and over and the car won't turn over.

I've had the car boosted, then the car works. Very enfuriating. Hope someone can help.

Hard to say exactly, the rain usualy doesnt affect the pass lock system.
Id say its a coincidence(the rain no start) and the security light flashing.

Tho if you have a sun roof, you could have a leak that gets something wet, like the fuse boxes/wiring.

Though it does sound like you have a pass lock problem, since the light is flashing.

One thing, do you have a bunch of items hanging from your key chain ??
If you do, this could be causing your troubles, remove the excess and see if that helps.

Thanks for replying.

All the mechanics think the problem can't be fixed. Something must be happening when there is moisture because I have no problems when it is dry out. The car only fails to start when there is rain.

Nothing on my keychain :(

typically when this occurs it is in the charging/starting system.

Could even be a ground on the engine, but you'd think the mechanics would have checked these first.

So does you GA hav a sunroof ??
