Hey all. If you guys haven't noticed, I've been in the mood to build some models. So to add to my ever growing collection, I got three of these gorgeous Skylines for $15. All three are from Aoshima btw.
Edit I've decided to change this thread to a full GT-R History build. So only Skylines with the GT-R badge will be in the build. :D It'll be slow so please bear with me.
This build will include:
Skyline PGC10 4-door GT-R (Finished)
Skyline KPGC110 GT-R (In progress 5% done)
R31 Skyline GTS-R (Even it's not a actual GT-R it's still considered one of the best "sporty" Skyline)
R32 Skyline GT-R (Finished)
R33 Skyline GT-R (Didn't start)
R34 Skyline GT-R (Finished)
R35 GT-R (N/A)
R32 GT-R V-Spec II Just started on it
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y78/xpeed/DSC01059.jpg
Skyline PGC10 2000GT-R and KPGC110 2000 GT-R
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y78/xpeed/DSC01060.jpg
Stay tuned for them. :iceslolan
I've got three models on order and that should be the end of it for me for the year. :icon16:

Sweet. I love every Skyline pre 2001. V35/36 and the GT-R are not Skylines anymore. Once they went V6 I lost interest. That 4th gen is a rare find. Now you just need an R31 and a R30 and you're set.

i've always said that every build has its own storyline...
for your case, you're telling a story on the legendary skylines this world has seen. i like this kinda of storyline!
like mojo said, if you can complete with the other 2 mentioned...now this is a complete skyline story!!!
build with passion & don't rush work ok!?
make me smile when i return to view your post...a perfect story has been told.
cheers!

I'll try my hardest not to mess up. I have two models sitting in my closet because I messed up horribly on the paint.
Other than that, if I had some putty, I would probably mold a bodykit like this one here.

Tell me about it.
I myself have been slugging my way through an MR2 with suspension issues, and a R32 with a botched pain job (forgot the wash between sanded coats, grrrrrr :banghead: )
Him taking on 3 at a time is a good motivator.

Hey all. I've decided to do a GT-R legend history builds instead. So, I will be building all the GT-Rs that came out starting with the first GT-R to the current new GT-R R35 for this thread. Stay tuned, this will take me awhile to finish so please be patient ^_^
This build will include:
Skyline PGC10 4-door GT-R (Finished)
Skyline KPGC110 GT-R (In progress)
R31 Skyline GTS-R (Even it's not a actual GT-R it's still considered one of the best "sporty" Skyline)
R32 Skyline GT-R (Finished)
R33 Skyline GT-R (Didn't start)
R34 Skyline GT-R (Finished)
R35 GT-R (N/A)
I recently got this in the mail.
Fujimi 1/24 R33 GT-R
http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a48/xspeed/DSC01168.jpg
And I'm waiting for this to come in as well.

I love your ambition. Keep it up. There been any progress? I thought I'd just mention that you should take your time. You seem to have missed a few mould lines on the PGC10-GTR....infact, looking at it, I don't think you even painted it. Take your time and this thread will be epic . Better to have great results than a visibly rushed job.

^ I actually did paint it. I used Tamiya TS-45 Pearl White. It doesn't seem it's painted because I probably used white primer instead of gray. I also coated it with a clear coat as well. Maybe I should take some better pictures of it later on.
I'll check up on the mold lines later on too. I thought I sanded them all down. Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it.

The mould lines I can see are running from the back and trunk lid, up to the roof and all along to the front. Do you plan to paint the window trims? I don't mean to intentionally pick holes, just some constructive critisism :).

Even though I said watching this thread was great inspiration for me to get off my backside, I think it's having the opposite effect. You're just steaming through all of them! Watching you makes me tired, lol. Coupled with some of my own painting hold-ups....I've practically come to a standstill :banghead:
That PGC10 looks superb in the sun! I think I'm going to try and use this headstart on you to begin my R35 and try and finish before you do.... Joking aside, great stuff and keep it up.

^ Haha, thanks. Yeah, I had a standstill for a while on the KPGC110 for couple of weeks, and I decided to get off my butt and work on it. The main reason why this one took longer was because a list of problems I encountered. First I didn't have the assembly sheet so I had to do some research and find an existing one for a similar kit by Aoshima. Once I found one that was similar to mine, I finally started on it.
You fly by it real fast once you get up and work on it. Now I'm stuck with my restoration on the R34 since I'm still deciding how to get the damn paint off. :(

Nice Skylines. :)
One suggestion, when you brush paint parts, thin the paint a bit to avoid that chunky texture. Also avoid adding more layers when the undercoat hasn't completely dried yet. For window trim and fine details, masking tape/bmf is your friend.
Good luck on the rest of your kits.

Some of my builds are on hold for now. Waiting for some new CF decals to come in for my other builds. =D I did start on the Nismo Xanavi R34 JGTC car though.

Two coats of gold on the GT-R.

Looks good, reminds me of the Top Secret theme. Which gold did you use to paint this? It's a beautiful colour.

^Thanks! I used Tamiya TS-21 Gold. I'm actually trying to create a Top Secret theme car. =] I'm also in the process of transforming it into the Spec V model, which has some CF accents on the car compared to the regular GT-R. *I really hate the look of the Spec V exhaust.

Did some work on the brakes and upgraded it for a better look without using PE parts and some exhaust work. I need to work a bit more on the exhaust tips.
Brake work.

The chassis with CF diffuser

Chassis without the CF diffuser (Shame since it'll cover up the exhaust)

Close-up of the exhaust.

Smooth paint, the smoother the better. If you need to put a decal on a flat color surface you can put down flat clear in the area and put down the decal while the clear is still wet. A decal works best over gloss paint however.

Amen! I loved the whole car, until they slapped those ugly exhausts on there!

I would becareful with doing that, test a spare decal out first. Decals don't stick to flat colors that well. Like stated before, the smoother the better, also try some decal solvent like microsol and set. Everyone on this forum swears by it, and since trying it i make sure i always have some on hand. What really works for me as well, is a hot wet cloth. Hairdryer is another choice of many modellers. Just don't hold close to the model for too long, give it short bursts of hot air.
As far as the wheels, i would've chosen a different set. They look a little too small for that beast. Color combo is nice. Nice job on the r34 rebuild. From looking at your earlier builds, you have been getting alot better. Good luck and keep us posted.

Some of my thoughts are to just apply the decal to a glossy surface then seal it with flat clear. Alternatively, apply the decal to any surface and then seal with flat clear :p.
I'm also not sure about applying a decal to wet flat coats. I use Tamiya Flat Clear and knowing their Gloss Clear is notoriously hot, I can't imagine the Flat being too different. Not sure where you want to apply the decal to though...either way, I always try to seal them on. That way they're guaraunteed not to fall off.
