I have a 89 Chevy silverado 305 and i noticed the temp would take forever to warm up. so i let it cool down for a while about 5 hrs. took the stat out and it was stuck open .so i replaced it with a new one and the temp is still really slow at getting up there.i have pretty good heat.could i have air in the system or maybie a bad fan clutch.or a bad gauge. it gets up there but it takes alot longer then it use too. thanks guys

Check the coolant mixture, is it 50/50?

Have you checked things to make sure it is not just a gauge or sending unit going bad? Like as feeling to see if it is actually warmer than the gauge is showing....or maybe sticking a thermometer into the radiator ?

The sensor for the gauge is in the cylinder head between #1 and #3 spark plugs. The sensor for the ECM is in the intake. If you have a scan tool (or access to one) see what temp the ECM is seeing.

it is very possible that you have the wrong or defective thermostat... make sure it is the same size...also place in water and heat use temp guage to see if it opens too soon 195deg f is the correct temp for just beginning to open....

I've had this happen to me thats why I test first...

if not correct or installed incorrectly coolant maybe bypassing the stat....
