Where to wire this gauge?

So I have an Aeroforce Interceptor on order, probably due in not too long. I want to mount it in the area between the HUD and A-pillar, either with a pod that fits nicely with the HUD, or just a universal? I don't plan on getting a second gauge of any kind yet, so is there a single gauge pod that sits next to the HUD, otherwise I'm going to just order a universal.

As far as wiring, what's the best route to getting this done clean? Just run it up from below the kick panel, then go up? Where does the wire come out (near the HUD? is there space?)? Do I need to drill to get the wire through? Just looking for some ideas, I'm sure I could figure it out on my own, but I thought I'd see what any of you have done.

IMO the universal is going to look crappy. I would be hesitant to drill any holes anywhere. Sure you dont want an A pillar guage pod? I think they might come in ones.

Well if I went A-pillar, again, where does the wiring go/run? I've never wired up aftermarket gauges in a car before and I want a clean setup.

I helped my brother install a triple A-pillar gage package on his (now my) GTP a couple years back.

All the wiring was nicely hidden behind the trim piece, and was fed down behind the LH side of the dash.

I just did some relays and gages on my old style R-series pickup truck, and while it has a lot more room underneath, it's best to try to draw up a wiring diagram (simple sketch) to route your ground (can be common between gage & backlite), 12v ignition, backlite voltage, and then finally the sensor(s) signals. I carry split black conduit of various sizes in my shop and try to run new wiring in that whenever possible, or add wires into existing GM conduit harness routings so the wires don't chafe. Underdash isn't too bad but underhood and underbody has a lot more potential for rubbing thru to the wire.

Update your sketch with wire colors, gages and other notes and you'll have a nice schematic to work from if there are ever future problems.

Always best to fuse any additional wiring so you don't fry a fusible link...those can be a PITA to find.

I'd put it into a single 2 1/16" bezel/holder as close to the ALDL/odb-ii port as possible since it must be connected full time to the ALDL port where it will also get it's 12 volt power. Remember this is not a typical gauge but a full function odb-ii scan gauge. Great for reading out real time knock retard (KR), A/F mixture ratio, just to name a few functions, etc.

BTW - It will come with 5 feet of cable so you can place it where you so desire. I'm just not a fan of the A pillar gauge holder. :grinno:

If I was 100% sure I'd be selling it with the car whenever the car gets sold, I'm just go fully custom, but since I have no idea what car is next, if it works for it...I may as well keep it after.

I have a triple gauge pillar on my GTP and it worked really well. I have a boost guage, volts and A/F. If you take your time, it really wasn't that bad at all. I got it to look clean as well- there aren't any wires hanging out anywhere or anything like that.
