ABS Light on

Hi folks

Ended up keeping my '95 caprice after all. (see March 31 posting). I wish I could say it hasn't had more problems, but the starter locked up a month ago and had to be replaced. Now I have an ABS light that comes on after 10-15 minutes of driving. When I stop and turn off the engine to reset the system like the manual says, the light comes on again after another 10-15 minutes of run time. I know this is one of those "see your dealer" things, but do you folks have any ideas what the most likely cause is, and how much I'm looking at to fix it? I've put a ton of money in this old car, but Lord help me I still love it.

Thanks for your time.

Only an ABS capable scanner will tell you with any certainty. It could be an intermittent wheel sensor finally falling below the signal threshold, an intermittent ABS power relay or power connection, a brake pedal switch, or even the brake fluid level, among other possibilities.

You can measure AC voltage at each wheel speed sensor and the rear axle sensor to see if each one produces at least 0.60VAC at about 5 MPH wheel speed (one revolution per second).

check all ground points for computer/abs unit...remove battery ground then remove and clean the frame rail grounding points...
