91 Civic LX Sedan - window/lock problems

Hello all,

I searched for topics pertaining to my problem, but all 4 pages turned up without the help I need. If I missed one somehow, please let me know.

I have a 91 Civic LX (trunk model) which has issues with the power windows and power locks. The driver-side front window works fine. The rear driver-side window has to be manually nudged to the top of the track while someone else pushes up on the switch. This is not a huge deal, as I have pretty much just resigned myself to not ever putting that window down. The rear passenger window is a bit of an issue because it got stuck while in the down position, and would not raise all the way back up until we prayed and kept trying to pull it up, etc. I can leave that window up too, but would like to figure out what the cause is/fix it if possible/plausible. The front passenger window is the major issue. The material which holds the rear portion of the window (the little u-shaped metal bracket mounted to the scissor-type assembly) snugly in place, has either failed or worn away. The front one still holds the window in place without an issue. Also, once the rear portion is realigned and dropped back into the bracket, when I attempt to get the window to go up by pushing the switch, it stops at about 2-3 inches from the top and won't budge.

Recently, I have manually lifted the window into place where it would normally stop when all the way up, and used duck tape to hold the window in place (applied tape on the outside and inside of the window), however, I would like to determine what the cause is and possibly fix it myself to avoid expensive labor/parts charges from a garage. It wouldn't actually be that big of a deal, except that the heat keeps causing the tape to peel away from the window, and over time, the window falls back down again.

A friend of mine from work suggested taking the door panels off and cleaning the inside in case it's just dirty. He said that solution worked for him when he had the same problem with one of his cars before.

The second (and less urgent issue) is the power locks. All of a sudden, without warning, they just quit working. They worked fine up until a certain point, and then it was just as if the car never even had power locks to begin with. Very strange to me.

Anyway, I hope some of you kind souls on here can help me with these things.

Thanks,

rear window problems are probably the motors, they go bad over time..

Yes, you should clean inside your doors, 20 years is a long ass time for stuff to get into your doors and mess everything electrical up.

The locks, either all four solenoids went bad randomly (highly unlikely) or you just need to check the wiring and check/replace the switch/fuse/relay.

You can check the master switch by removing the switch from the wire clip and jumpering the wires, there are three, lock (+)/unlock (+) and ground (-)

Same with all the window switches, and you can add a voltmeter to them to make sure that they're working with the right voltage.

Check the fuses for all too, since you're going to be doing stuff with electrical, it never hurts.
