Whoa! Brakes FAIL Low Speeds

2001 Blazer 43 WD..

I pulled into a parking lot a few days ago when my brakes "chattered" as if the anti-lock system was engaged or trying to engage. The vehicle would not stop and I narrowly avoided rear-ending a car in front of me. Had to go to the E-Brake. As I drove around after the incident at normal speeds the problem did not resurface until I was just creeping along at speeds of 3 mph or less. Then, and only then does this "No-Braking" symtom occur. I get no idiot lights. I can slow from 60 down to 0 MPH without incident over and over again but if I am pulling into my driveway or inching forward in a driveup window line for example, this "attention getting" brake problem happens.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Paul

You need to get it on a ABS capable scanner and see what is going on.
And best to scan it right after it does it before turning key off.
There should be some store codes in scanner.
And watch and check all wheel speed sensors for a problem.
Make sure they are all reading same speed.

I had that problem in a '97 p.u.. The RF wheel sensor had rusted up. That one did the same thing but only when the wheels were turned slightly to the right. It had just been inspected about an hour earlier. Took it back to the garage, they replaced the sensor & it worked fine.

You nailed it, MT-2500! Front Pass. side sensor reading 0 at 5m/h. Called parts store was told that it was only available with hub for $300. Called GM dealer sensor only $83.

Good old GM oem parts.
Thanks for posting back how it went and the fix.
Good luck.
