Battery Date Code

My 2001 Blazer has an AC-Delco "Professional" battery currently installed. I noticed that my dash voltmeter is reading a fraction less than normal and decided I would access the problem by first checking the Date Code on the battery. I purchased the vehicle used and I have no data if the battery was ever changed out.

The battery is a six (6) year type, AC - Delco "Professional" and it has one sticker on it with a bar code and a serial number that reads "221081"

If it is the original battery, a six year jobber would be past its' prime being a 2001 model vehicle but since there is nothing but a serial number, I am not sure.

Can anyone tell me if the serial number is encoded to translate the date code or if I'm perhaps looking in the wrong place?

It will be coded or stamped some place.
Find a AC-Delco batter jobbery.
Have them check and look at battery.
But do not go by a dash gauge.
Put a volt meter on the battery for proper testing.

The voltage of the system is determined by the alternator and voltage regulator when the engine is running (so long as you are not using a huge electrical load).

When running, the electrical system should generate 13.7 to 14.5 volts.

The battery voltage is only measurable when the engine is not running. In this case, it would be about 12 volts.

As posted above, examine the system with an accurate digital volt meter before condemning the battery.
