Yes, I inadvertantly put oil stabilizer instead of lucas tansmission stuff...I had drained out about 2 pints and replaced it with what I thought was transmission stuff because my transmission had been slipping a little. I didn't discover my mistake until after I'd driven it about 4 weeks. Now it is slipping really bad. What can I do? Have I ruined my transmission?km

Don't know if it is possible to get the oil off the clutches and plates or not.
Depending on how many miles is on the tranny, first I would talk to a tranny mechanic about what the oil is doing to the tranny. Then, if I could get his blessing, I would drain and flush the tranny, including the converter. Then I'd fill it with trans. fluid with two quart bottles of Lucas Trans Additive. Should have been done as soon as you realized you had put oil stabilizer in the fluid.
My trans. has 190,000 on it therefore I think I'd swap transmissions - either used or rebuilt.
Good luck.

I've never had any luck with any of those transmission fixes in a bottle. I have used the Lucas and countless others. Once the trans starts slipping it's usually toast. You are probably in for a rebuild, or used replacement. I wouldn't beat yourself up to bad about the mix up in fluids, that trans was most likely gone any way.

Hey you guys.......Thanks for the advice. and you are right....the trans was slipping in and out and has been on borrowed time for a while anyway. I was trying to get a few more miles out of it. I have an appt tues w/ the local tranny man. In the mean time I syphoned out about 1&1/2 pints and replaced it with the right lucas stuff. I drove it to work and back this morning (about 16 mi) and it only did it once. BIG improvement. After work I stopped and picked up something called __ __ red. I syponed out 10 oz and poured that in. Now I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I love my car. Thanks again... KM

What do you use to siphon out the fluid?

Does the slip happen when youy first start to roll or between 3rd and OD.
You might want to look at Trans shudder posts in here.
Although you made a mistake I am certain that I am still the dumbest SOB
alive. Good Luck

I've got a 12 volt heavy duty fuel pump mounted to a board; it has about 8 ft of rubber fuel line on each end. That pump set up works great around my shop for about anything including siphoning out a trans.

Dam Mike, I guess so. That would suck out motor oil. LOL

hi guys....I haven't been able to get this website up for a few days and just got it up today. anyways, how I got the transmission fluid out....I suctioned it out using air filter tubing from an aquarium set up. Took about 30 min. I don't know if it will last but believe it or not my transmission is performing like new....no slips. Also...yes it only slipped between 3rd and overdrive before the episode w/ the oil stabilizer. You guys are great. Kathy
