'96 rear brake drum stuck.....

What is the best way to get the drum off? I've tried a rubber mallet but it just won't budge.

Rubber? A big hammer and pry bar, there is a rusted lip on the rear inner surface of the drum holding against the linings, this is a PITA.

Never hit the back of a drum...you can crack it, that's the farthest point from where it's stuck, usually. Around the hub is where the stick, and sometimes the ridge Max mentioned...

Spray penetrant around the hub and studs, let soak a bit, then hit the area between the studs with a metal hammer...put the lugnuts on to protect the studs so you don't bream one...

That's if the drum/hub interface is stuck...if it moves on the hub, it's caught on a ridge on the friction surface...or the parking brake is dragging. Either way the solution is to adjust the shoes in through the access hole, not beat it death...do that and sometimes the springs and everything fly off with the drum...

Sometimes you can sneak it off by turning it back and forth abruptly while pulling outward if the ridge is not too bad...
