97 check engine light problem

Check engine light blinks and when you give it some gas and hold the pedal the revs go up and down with out removing your foot from the gas pedal. The car also shakes a bit in drive. Replaced the wires and plugs and the EGR. Took it to the mechanic and he said that replacing the plugs and wires might fix it but still does the same thing. Its a 3.1 L with about 140k miles.

I would go to autozone to get the code read first. I don't know about this one but I have herd that if the engine light ever blinks that there is something severely wrong with the engine. I am not trying to worry you but that's just what i have herd. :runaround:
