I know on a 95 you have to drop tank, not sure about newer models but wouldm guess yes you have to drop it. What year are you speaking of. Also you can look on the Online Service Manual thread or autozone.com.

Here is how I did it on my '96 Caravan 3.3. I got the rear of the car up on ramps, I used a floor jack with a sheet of ply wood (about 1/2' thick and maybe 2'x2') on the jack foot I put pressure on the tank, then I released the retaining straps and lowered the tank just enough to access the fuel pump retaining nut. I then removed the electrical connector (there is a red horse shoe shaped clip that has to be pulled back to remove the electrical retainer), and using a rubber strap wrench I unscrewed the retaining nut. With nut off I pulled pump out of the tank, removed the fuel filter feed lines, and reversed procedure and put in a new pump (from Advance). After all is hooked up I started her up and looked for leaks (none), shut her off and jacked the tank back up, re-secured her and the3n drove her off the ramps (50,000 miles later all is well). NOTE: a Haynes manual is a great help.
