This is a 96 with a 3100 automatic. Car was driving normally until dash lights came on. Then car wouldn't stay running. It would start for a second then stop right away. All lights on dash would then stay on solid (including security light would stay on solid)and then turn off with the key. Have checked all connections, replaced plugs, new ignition, both crank sensors, map sensor, egr, plugs, checked noid, checked ohms at injectors, and fuel pressure. Have replaced battery and tried resetting security at least a dozen times. Have worked on for at least 20 hours and am ready to junk it but its my daughter's only vehicle. Have read all posts on this and other sites regarding Achievas and the only thing I haven't tried was replacing the speedometer cluster or the computer. I just need to know before spending more on parts not needed if this is the problem as I am going broke!! Thank you very much for reading this.

Welcome to AF !!

No need to post duplicate threads , your other thread has been deleted.

When you say the dash lights came on what exactly do you mean ?

The warning lights on the dash cluster , or the lights that illuminate the cluster (like when your headlight are on) ??

Other 95-96 N bodies are known for bad clusters, usualy the solder joints fail and usualy need repalced to solve the issues. Though I've not seen many Achieva's with this problem.

And you said you replaced the ignition,
was that the ignition switch(where the key goes) ??
or was it the ignition control module along with the plugs/wires ??

If you search google for "96 Achieva bad cluster" you'll find many others with simular issues.

Also check the web for a remanufactured one if you do need to replace yours, much cheaper then the stealership.

And sorry for the delayed responce!

The idiot lights come on and stay on. Just replaced the instrument cluster and that didn't help either even after resetting the security system. More wasted money on this POS. The ignition switch where the two rectangular plugs go into was replaced- not the tumblers or the upper part with the three wires.

I posted answers to your questions. My problem was unique from all others posted. I had to scrap the car because no one had an answer to fix it.
