Window Motor or switch?

I have a '96 Grand Am SE. The passenger side window goes down just fine, however, to get it to go back up I have to turn the car off and back on a few times. Is my window motor going bad or could it be my switch?

You may want to search the forum specific to the Grand Am to learn if this is a common issue on them. I'm not sure if your Grand Am has some sort of door module or body control module that the power window switches run through to control the windows.

Does the passenger window work all the time from the switch on that door, just not from the driver's door, or do neither of the switches work it reliably?

I don't see how cycling the ignition switch would have any effect on a bad window motor which is why I suspect there's a body or door module somewhere in the circuit.

locate the control arm form the engine spline shpft to the base of the window, this will be a scissor looking device usually, disconnect the arm form the motor, push the window into place, place the control arm back on the splined shaft. This is most likely a bad motor, and the motor can be replaced by following the same basic method.
