"Universal Remote"

I hope this is in the right section of the forums.

I am looking for somewhat of a universal remote for my car. it's a 98' Buick Regal 25th anniv ed. the stock keyless remote seems pretty week (although it may still have the original battery) but i'd like longer range. i would also like remote start, and an alarm. on top of all that, i have underbody lights that came with a wireless remote, but that remote is even weeker then the keyless entry - i have to literally be touching the car for it to work...

is there any remote start/alarm system i could get with a remote that could be programed to control my underbodies too? preferably a 2way with mile range.
if there isn't anything like that, is there even just a stronger remote i could get to replace the cheap one that came with the underbodies, or does anyone know of any way to increase the signal strength on the cheapo remote?

thanks!

Most of the FM 2-way aftermarket remote start/alarm systems have multiple channels which can be used for exactly what you desire. Of course installation places will charge extra to interface to additional devices, adding relays, etc.

So what would be the cheapest one I could get that would allow me to combine both remotes, and remote start the car?

Would this work?
http://sonicelectronix.com/item_9303_AutoPage+RS-1000+OLED+with+ONE+MILE+RANGE-.html

Or is there a cheaper solution with the same range?

Also, is this something I would be able to install myself, or would I have to take the car in someplace to have it done? My car (98 Buick Regal) has an immobilizer with a resistor built into the key, so you somehow have to bypass this if I'm not mistaken. And If I do it myself would I be able to program it with the underbody lights myself too? I'm assuming it wouldn't be as easy (or difficult lol) as programing a universal remote for your TV and such.

Thanks!

That's actually the same model I have for my wife's car. I've used quite a few AutoPage systems in the past (and currently) and have been pleased with them. They've never given me problems.

There are certainly ones with similar range that you could get for less money, but won't have as much "wow" factor.

Not knowing what your capabilities and experience are, I have no way of determining if you could install one yourself and wire it to your underbody lights. The alarm does come with installation instructions as well as the operation instructions. The VATS system can be bypassed by adding a simply low tolerance resistor for the remote start and I believe the installation manual details the specifics for a VATS system.

Ok, so i think I'm going to buy the AutoPage RS-1000, but before I do I want to make sure it will work how I want it to. Like I said, the car is a '98 Regal. I would want the remote to start it, lock/unlock, and open the trunk. It would be cool if it could open the windows too. I would also like it to contol the underbody lights. The remote that came with the lights has 4 buttons. One for on/off, one for pattern, one for speed, and one for color. I would like the RS-1000 to control all those features, but at least on/off, color, and pattern. Is it possible to have the remote contol all of that? Would I have to buy additional parts other than what comes with the RS-1000 package, and if so, what would I need to get?
