Looking to buy a 99 Suburban K2500 4WD with only 19000 miles.
It is not stock and modified with a supercharger. The engine has been rebuilt and the cooling system and transmission to handle the extra power.

What type of place would you take it to get looked at to inspect it fully?

The truck is in Orange county , specifically Huntington Beach California.

I would only recommend buying it if the asking price is so low that you can afford to throw the truck away in a year... a supercharger on a 4x4 ??? Why:confused:

GTS Supercharged Total Performance Engine Package: Includes the 'GTS Tuned Performance Engine Package' with the addition of a twin-screw positive-displacement supercharger. This type of design is renowned for its ability to produce strong low-end torque, and deliver smooth, consistent power from idle to redline. A 140-horsepower improvement and reduction of 2-3 seconds in 0-60 times can be expected from this engine package. The substantial increase in power makes short work of hills, towing, or transporting cargo or passengers. The GTS' acceleration times rival those of the BMW 740iL, a stunning accomplishment for a vehicle weighing nearly three tons. The GTS' supercharger and exhaust system are C.A.R.B. approved and legal for street use in all 50 states. This package is available for the '96-'99 5.7 and 7.4L Vortec engines, in addition to the new-generation 2000 & Newer: 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L and 8.1L Vortec engines.

Comparison between the GTS and BMW 740i
STILLEN GTS: Acceleration: 0-60 = 7.34 Braking: 60-0 = 127'
BMW 740i: Acceleration: 0-60 = 7.70 Braking: 60-0 = 144'

Actually had the fortune to work on an NBA player's Yukon that was modified by Beverly Hills Customs. I wasn't really impressed untill I met him one night at the local hangout in DC and we decided to see the difference. His was a 97 Yukon and I owned a 97 Tahoe, needless to say I couldn't see his tag when finished. I believe we raced for just under a mile.

You can see it by webcam

http://www.pacific-audio.com/pacific-audio-live.html

It has been modified:

Brembo brakes (whish it had THEBRAKEMAN brakes)
Bilstein shocks
Urethane suspension lowered 2 inches.
revalved tranny
blue printed forged ported and polished
dual ceramic exhaust
stainless pipes
Double capacity radiator
Extra transmission and engine cooler
Whipple II Supercharger 6psi
3 batteries
200 amp alternator
18X9.5 HR firestone directional M&S

Allegedly it could do a 1/4 in under 14 seconds but I have not timed it yet.

I'm well aware of what a supercharger is, Don.

I just don't see the logic in buying a heavy 2500 with 4 wheel drive - all that extra "dead" weight & then trying to bring performance to such a heavy beast. If its a show truck then what the heck, but for everyday driving it just seems like a waste.

One mans treasure is another mans waste

Looking for a newer Suburban and came accross this one.

Thought it might be a good deal with only 19000 miles.

I agree with you to a certain level but under a different premise.

The car was built this way to get away with nine adults in it as fast as possible.

I have a need for a Suburban but would not buy one and add all the equipment listed above.

it is a 1999.

Would you settle for a 1999 or go with a 2000 or newer?

Issue #1: If the 1999 does not have the "Passkey" security system, then I'd buy that year. My 2001 has this system where it senses if the key is in the ignition - no key, no fuel to the engine (to prevent hotwiring). The problem is... some mornings it thinks I'm trying to hotwire my own car!!! So, for $30,000 I have a vehicle that wants me to lose my job :(

Issue #2: The newer body is much better at "sports" driving (I've drifted, peeled out, etc...) and just plain "feels" better.

If the 1999 has that damn Passkey system, too, then I guess it depends on how much $$$ you're saving by buying the 1999. I hear ya on the "different strokes for different folks"... sorry bout that misunderstanding, its just that with gas prices what they are I was shocked. Maybe you can get the car even cheaper because of the gas situation, though:smoka:

$23,000

It has 19,000 miles on the truck.

Engine was rebuilt at 17,000 miles. So engine has 2000 miles on it.

Actually yoiu hit the nail on the head. The supercharger is a minus because of the gas situation.

I've found that increasing performance by shaving off weight works best for me. I'm getting better at not "evangelizing" my cause... sorry about the earlier outburst. Because of the lack of many features, my Suburban kicks mucho azz:bandit: However, it will never win any awards (no bling-bling):(

Look forward to pics of your ride, especially the engine compartment (7 litres with supercharger - now that is a show truck):smoker2:

I just have to add this...
In the vicinity of where I live, there seem to be a *LOT* of people with lots of money and no sense.

'03 H2s slammed with 24s and $20k A/V system.

'03 3500HDs with 18" lift and 44s - again $20k a/v sys.

It seems that there are a few of these Custom Canepa Design Suburbans in Los Gatos... http://www.canepa.com/vehicle_html/vehicle_2ksuburban.html and I must say that they are nice to drive, pretty, and very useless. Then again, I like to go off-road... but still - these people wash their trucks every 3 days @ $50 bucks a pop. You said that it goes fast ? Are you joining a Suburban racing team? (Speed + 9000 pound SUV... :hehehe: )

If I was in desperate need of a tow vehicle - the Supercharger would be nice... but only if it was for show. If I really needed a tow rig - I'd get a HD Dually...

So what do you do to get the weight reduced?
I would think the best way for a 99 is to get rid of the rear drums.

Has anyone tried to put on the rear stearing on a older model? Does it even come on the Burb models?

It's simple... to lose weight in a Canepa Suburban...

1. Lose the 20" chrome wheels. Get some Kenesis wheels made.
2. Exchange all fenders, hood, doors and other body panels for carb/fib.
3. Swap all glass for Plexi.
4. Gut the interior... even the $20k A/V.
5. Install a racing seat.
6. Fuel cell instead of gas tank.
7. Rollcage.
8. Ultralight 1Kote paintjob.
9. Uhh... Titanium driveshafts?
10. Why the hell would anyone do this to a Suburban?

The rear-steer is available in the 03 Suburban... If you wanted to put it in your old Burb you'd have to take the computer (and the engine and the tranny and the transfer case and the steering linkage and the steering box and the frame) and ... uh... the rear axle. It'd be cheaper and easier to just get a new one.
