AC Quit Working

My AC quit working again. The first time was last September. It continued to malfunction until May of this year and worked well until last night. It blows hot air all the time. The TCU seems to be operating as far as I can tell. The damper under the dash moves and the fan changes speed as I change the set point. The lines under the hood are cold. Last year when this happened I check the refrigerant and it appeared OK. Any suggestions would be appreciated. The local mechanic here could do nothing for me and suggested I take it to Lincoln for diagnostics. Any help would be appreciated.

The car is a 1995 Town Car.

Something else I noticed: The line going from the bottom of the evaporator housing near the firewall is cold until a stransition of some sort, then it's warm. Is this the orifice? Could it be blocked?

Mechanic probably didnt want at worse case taking the dash apart to fix the blend door. Many posts on that here.

Appears to be ok. Does that mean you checked it with gauges? Or you saw two cans go in?

If you eat a big mean something has to come out or you wont work right.
Same with refrigerant. Thats why they use tanks to reclaim it.

Dont dump oil on te ground or in sewer. Dont release Refrigerant into the
atmosphere. Please.

Blend door would be my guess> Good luck

Hello, first I would like to saY that I own a 95 LTC and I just finished replacing the entire a/c system. So I was in the same situation you're in. I would have to agree that it might be the blend door motor. How ever, before I would pull the dash out, I would have the pressures checked. If you mechanic doesn't have a a/c machine, then how does he know whats going on?????????? You need to know your pressures!!!!! Next, if the pressures are ok, and assuming the blend door is operating correcting, I would say the a//c system is clogged. From the middle 80''s to mid 90's Ford had a problem with their compressors called black death. The teflon components inside the back of the compressor would melt into a slush, spread throught the a/c system, and clog it up. Now remember when I said that I replaced my a/c system?, I put it back together and would't you know it, the coldest it blew was 72 degrees. The compressor went bad due to black death, I had to replace the compressor, condensor, and dryier. blowing out ALL the lines, and the evaporator. Once I finished, it now blows around 30-40 degress. My advice is to take it to a place where they know what their doing and go from there. Hope this helps...
