MGB cam and distributor

I am putting my 79 MGB engine back together. In the Haynes manual, the distributor drive dog offset is to the left when the rotor is pointing straight up (dog parallel with centerline of rotor). My car was 180° opposite. When the timing gear dots are adjacent and inline (TDC) the distributor rotor should point to the 2:00 0'clock or front cylinder plug wire terminal on the cap --correct??
It pointed to the rear cylinder plug wire terminal on the cap! Can someone help me out with the correct procedure to locate the correct distributor installation, and when the cam and crank dots are adjacent and in line is the front cylinder (#1) in its firing position?

When the cam dots are adjacent and in line #4 cylinder is in the firing position. The dots will both be in line and around 2:00 O'clock when number cylinder is in the firing position (TDC compression stroke).
