Headlight Bulb Wattage?

So I recently replaced my fog lights, bought a set off eBay, I was wondering what the stock Headlight Bulbs wattage is? Anyone know if I would Screw up my car by putting them in?

From looking at the bulbs, I think they are gonna be the stock wattage. Stock is 55 watt low beam and 65 watt high beam. Going up slightly would be okay but I've seen some that are 90 watt low and 100 watt high. That's way too much. Going too high will fry the wiring harness over time and do damage to the headlight housing due to excessive heat that wasn't anticipated. However I think you will get more blue with the 8000k than you think. You will also lose lumens with that high of a kelvin rating. I have a 6000k bulb that has a nice blue tint but won't get me pulled over and still has a lot of light output. The maximum light output is around 5000k I think from the last time I looked at the light spectrum. However, you could get a true HID system at the 8000k and you would have a good setup. That's just my :2cents:. And oh yea, sellers tell you what you want to hear so you will buy their product. They don't really care about the damage it will cause in the long run.

I agree with Accuab. I have never been happy with the light output of any of the "blue" bulbs, especially in wet conditions. The Sylvania Silverstar Ultras are the best OEM replacement bulbs that will not wash out in the rain or cause damage to the OEM housings and wiring. Any of these other supposed "HID like" bulbs are just a marketing ploy. I've never personally tried or seen any of the actual HID conversion kits so I cannot offer an opinion on those.

I have 8500K bulbs in my headlights right now and while they look cool, they don't put out light worth a crap. My fogs put out more light than they do. Next time around I'm going to try 6500-7500K and see how I like it.
Accuab is exactly right about the watts. I really wouldn't recommend going higher than a 55/65W bulb unless you want to go to the trouble of upgrading all your wiring, harnesses, etc. And if you do that, you might as well just get a REAL HID conversion.

I seen a newer bonneville (2004-2005 ish) rolling around my neighborhood. He's got the HID conversion kit. I actually lined up next to him at the stoplights and smoked him with the GTP. It was dark out, and his HID headlights put out some pretty good light.

I just installed an HID kit 6000k in my 97 GP GTP and I really am happy with the light out out they are vary bright, much much better than with the silver stars I had before. The kit I got was from a ebay dealer that sells the Xentech kits with slim ballast $79 free shipping and plug and play.... I did also install a relay kit that powers the balast from the battery insted of the factory wiring as this was recomended from others that have used these kits, as they have said that over time the headlight switch will eventally fail due to high start up current of the ballest. I am not totalally convinced of this as I have done a test reading with a DC inductive amp meter and my reading were 10.6amp at startup for 30-45secs and 5.3 amp durring normal operation so the factory system should handel the current. But I am staying with the relay for cheap insurance. But for the money I personaly would recommend the HID kits for the light you get out of them as you will see much better than you ever have before.

TIP: make sure you headlights are properly aimed/adjusted so that you do not blind other drivers on the road....
