so i'm going to miami in the beginning of August for a convention. i can either fly into miami or to ft.lauderdale. i save about 70 bucks flying into ft.lauderdale but am worried about transportation down to miami. i really don't want to rent a car for a few reasons. 1) i'll be in meetings all day 2) i'm under 25 so they tack on like 25 bucks a day extra.

i'm wondering how hard it is to get down to miami from ft.lauderdale and am looking for some help on this?? are there shuttles or anything like that or would i need to get a taxi? any help is much MUCH appreciated

Wouldn't spending the extra $70 on the flight even out the cost of renting a car or getting a taxi down to Miami?

If i remember right, the drive to Ft Lauderdale from Miami is like 45mins to an houre.

i'm starting to think that but at the same time, if me and 3 other guys all pitch in on a taxi or something...:dunno:

Fly into Miami, you'll enjoy it more and it'll be easier. Miami airport is really nice as well although you'll be leaing it not flying out from it.

Ft. Lauderdale can be a long drive pending traffic and it's high time for horrible drivers, ya know tourists, out-of-towners, northerners. ;)

I would just fly all the way to Miami. I think it will be a larger hassle driving there!

as a general rule, I try to get as close to my destination as quickly as possible, even if it means paying a little bit more.
More often than not, the simple saving in hassle and more importantly, time is more than worth the few extra ££/$$.

dude...my girl and i were going through the same dilemma last year..just pay the extra to fly into miami....and whatever you do, dont fly Spirit Air.. also there are a few ways to get to miami..th tri rail.. or a taxi and i think its a shuttle somewhere too...but when we first arrived, it was too late for the tri-rail so we took a cab...about 80 bucks. on the way back, we took tri rail.. it is cheap...but only runs a few times..they have an extensive busing system once you get into miami tho, so once youre at the airport, just get on a bus and thats all you need... Also rent a scooter..theyre great!!

Miami. The extra $70 would be chewed up in transportation costs that will take you at least an hour.

????? I thought you couldnt rent a car at all if you were under 25 or 26?, and you had to have credit cards....Did that change, or is that just an Ohio thing???? Or maybe that was Vegas???

I use to have a memory.....:eek7: :iceslolan

k so seeing how i slacked and now prices are up to about 400 for flying into Miami and around 250 to ft.lauderdale, is flying to Miami still the recommended method???

most rental car companies will rent to people under 25. Most of them require you to be 21 though. Most of them also tack on a 25 dollar a day fee if you are under 25. its 10 a day for enterprise though

that depends how much you really want to spend travelling to where you want to be as opposed to being where you want to be.

Quite simply, what is more important to you right now; money or time?

However you get there, good luck :)

I hate Miami with a passion. Bad driving and the strangest people you will ever come in contact with in your life. Get them to move the convention up to Destin, Panama City, Pensacola Beach or any other place in Florida for that matter. Miami is the arsehole of an otherwise very beautiful state. If you do rent the car, be very careful driving. Miami drivers do not understand how driving is supposed to work. Maybe it's because they don't comprehend the language on the signs.

What is the value of your friends and your lives? I hate to say harsh words about my home state but, for the most part, dade county is no longer considered the United states, nor do they want to be so. You would rather walk around with a t-bone steak a lion country safari than drive through the nieborhoods of miami. Do the duckys boys on the movie wonderers trigger any memories?

Miami does suck in every aspect unless you are not human or Cuban. The people hae no sense of right and wrong. Old people, yuppies, preps, gangs, and none no how to drive. I spent a weekend there once and that was enough. It was fun staying down at South Beach but every other time I went down there it was to UM or I was outside of Miami and drove in with friends. Not a fun place to stay but like almost anywhere else, ya gotta visit it.

By thw way, the time I spent there was when I too had little morals and was a much different person.

Meh, get some raingear, be prepared to dress lightly, it's going to be very warm. Check out the beach in Miami and walk their boardwalk, especially around sunset. {Trust me, you are young, :smokin:}. I'm talking about after you figure out how to get to Miami, that's your decide on how you get there.

Do check out the Everglades if you can. Or check out the tip park, it's straight out of Miami southbound. Take a dip in the Atlantic, it's warm, but not as nice as the Gulf side.

If you get the time, road trip for awhile!!!!!!!!!! It's a great state to be around.

To be honest with you, well we all know that crime is everywhere. To be safe, I would fly to Miami, instead getting a cab. It is hard to trust some people these days. Florida has ALOT of crime, and the said things is, alot of the people that get hurt are not from here. Miami is the party spot and the airport is nice. There is alot of security and oh now that you talk about insurance. We had to get a rental car because our suburban was at the dealership getting some repairs. It was covered under warranty, so the dealer paid for the rental. Well it wasn't free. Enterprise knows how to get one over on you. I was told that since I have Allstate, they would not cover a rental vehicle, so they tell me if I want coverage, I have to purchase it from them at $22 a day. So I did, I was thinking what if I have an accident?? I was given a 2008 Chevy Tahoe hybrid, yeah $60K for this baby. I could not afford for anything to happen. But after all of that I get my SUV back and I spoke to Allstate, will Allstate would have covered it if I would have called them to let them know. So I had this Tahoe for 6 days and I paid for their insurance. So that you have to be careful about too, as I was suckered in. HAVE A GREAT TRIP AND ENJOY THE SUNSHINE STATE! Although we have not seen much sunshine in the past 2 weeks, rain and storms daily here, YUCK! But on the other hand, we need rain to keep the fires away. Good luck!
