Was driving and then the jimmy stalled and would not start. Towed it home. Tried to start and nothing. Turn the key and can hear the fuel pump. Checked spark at # 1 plug and have spark. checked fuel line where the pressure guage would connect and fuels spurts out when the key is turned on. Sprayed starting fluid into the intake and it starts and runs til fluid is gone. Could a bad ingnition switch be the reason? Thanks for the help. 2000 jimmy 4.3. Fuel pump and filter was replaced about a month ago.

UPDATE
I checked the voltage going to the injectors and have 12v while starting. The resistance at the injectors are 12.4-12.6 ohms. I disconnected the fuel line at the intake and turned the key and have flow. I used a spark checking tool and have spark. Some how the injectors aren't firing (I hope). Can anybody help.

A SQUIRT AT TEST CONNECTOR WILL NOT START IT.
Sounds like a airtex fuel pump.
AIRTEX FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENT RIGHT?
Go easy on starting fluid unless you want to blow the valve covers threw the hood.
Only use carb cleaner for starting aid.
The only true test on a fuel pump is to check the direct fuel pressure from fuel pump.
A quick test is to block off the return line and see if fuel pressure comes up to 75-85 lbs.
But do not run the pump at full pressure very long.
Also when testing fuel pump and pressure you need to tape a gauge to outside windshield or outside mirror and drive it on the road for 20 -30 minutes
until the pump gets has run a while to check for a pump fading out after hot.
Hard to start cold and fuel pressure testing guide line.
Check cold start fuel pressure.
Check engine running fuel pressure.
Check engine running on the road fuel pressure.
Then shut it off and watch for fast leak down.
Pinch off at rubber part or block off return line and check full pressure.
If pump has full pressure with return line blocked and low pressure without it blocked most usually the fuel pressure regulator is leaking or not holding pressure.
Later V6 and V8 gm engines should have 60-66 fuel pressure.
Cold start should be 64-65 lbs of pressure.
If you do not have full fuel pressure on a cold start the injectors will not squirt fuel.
Do not leave home without it.
Engine running should be 60-66 lbs pressure depending on engine load.
Full pressure with return pinched off should be 75-85 or more.
And if it has a fast leak down after shut off you have a leak in system.
Post back all fuel pressure readings that you can get.
Cold cranking for sure will tell the proble.

It won't run so I can't check pressure when running. I'm going to buy a fuel pressure kit and check it tomorrow. I talked to a mech and he told me that they went trough at least 3 new pumps before they found a good one. I bought the replacement one from e-bay with a 1 yr warranty. If the pressure is below 60psi I will be giving them a call.

60 lbs is not good enought to squirt the injectors cold start.
You need 65 cold cranking.
Check direct fuel pressure to.
A good fuel pump will have 95 to 100 direct fuel pressure.
Ac-Delco/Delphi fuel pumps is the only way to go.
Anything else will give you a pain.
Run a search and look around on the other post on here.
Good luck

I did a check at the test port and before the filter and they both read 40 psi. Well the good thing is that it came with a 1 year warranty.

But
Does the warranty cover tow bills and breakdown headaces and replacement labor cost?
Not sure what brand pump or what parts place you got it from.
If the pump is under warranty ask the parts place to get you a AC-Delco/Delphi fuel pump and adjust the cost of the pump to the cost of the good AC pump.
Usually only 25-35 dollars more for the good one.
Which will save you 300-400 dollars each time the aftermarket pump quits.
When replacing the bad one make sure you check the wiring and grounds to the replacement pump.
If pigtail wiring is or was replaced make sure you solder the wires and seal the solder joints.
The crimp fittings that come with the pumps are a junk setup.
Solder wires instead of using crimp wire splices.
And will save you 100-200 dollars on tow bills and 100-200 dollars on replacement cost each time it fails.
Good Luck

I have limited funds. A pump from a parts store is 258. One from ebay is 65. Both with same warranty. The part store that sells ac-delco is probably more then 258 and will most likely come with a 30 day warranty. Towing is free for AAA plus members.

What kind of pump did you put it in a mounth ago?
What kind of pump are you going to put in it now?
What kind of a pump are you going to be putting in it the next mo.?
You would be better off with a used OEM pump that the junk aftermarket pumps.

If funds is low you might check your bone yard for a good used one.
Pick one that says ac delco on the pump.
Or check out this.

I think they were 85 dollars.
They are a remanufactured OEM pump. They are made by Universal Mfg. Co. (http://www.universalmanf.com/). The parts store told me they have had absolutely no trouble with them, have not had any come back. It comes with a 1 yr. 12,000 mile warranty.

MT is correct. Stay with OEM parts. If the part shops are that high in price Take a look at this link http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,carcode,1361461,parttype,6256 You can get a DELPHI Part # FG0052 {MODULAR FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY} for $288.79 plus shipping. Hope this helps.
