Engine noise getting "raspier".

Hey guys. I just recently purchased mt Vibe GT and have about 1500 miles on it. One thing I have noticed is that it seems the engine and exhaust noise seemd to have gotten a bit throat-ier or "rasp-ier" now that the car has been broken in. Has anyone else noticed this?

Nope.

Remember the GT engine is a performance based engine. It was meant to be driven fast and pushed hard. Having a throaty sound comes with the package.

What defines a sports car? The number of cylinders in the engine? the number of doors on the body? Some sort of aerodynamic coefficient?

Why is a Corvette a sports car, and a Vibe GT not a sports car? Is an H2 a sports car?

Where are the lines that separate an economy car, from a sports car, from a "family car" from a truck to an SUV?

The miata is not a sports car, a sports car is a car that has 350 horses plus! when you sit behind the wheel of a vibe its not the same as when you sit behind the wheel of a corvette. come on now, and you know it, thats like saying the tiburon, is like the gto.A 180 horses is garbage...pontiac does not consider the vibe a sports car, thats what they have their previous firebirds for and the 04 gto's.. you can pretend if you want to....when you get behind the wheel of a sports car u can feel it, the v8 rumblin! your excited, when u get in the vibe, you just dont want to honk the horn on accident, but like i said its a nice car, and also if it take you to go to over 7000 rpms to get the horses, that should tell you something, sports cars rarely go over 5000 rpms, it takes my truck4700 rpms to hit 200 horses, so pull up to me gt vibe...

Yeah, but can your truck hit 130mph? (then again, a Vibe cannot tow anything) There is more to the definition of a "sports car" than HP and # of Cylinders.

BTW, the 2zz engine in the Vibe GT was designed to be a high revving engine. It was meant to be driven in the upper RPM range and its perfectly normal to do so. I suppose time will tell, on the condition of 2zz engines all over the world, when they start hitting 200,000+ miles. Then we will see how well they fair in the long run.

I have a hard time judging cars based on their shape and number of doors. How about categorizing by performance?

The Neon SRT-4 can do 0-60 in under 6 seconds. The WRX is near that number as well. Are they sports cars? Are they "sport sedans"? Are they just "nice 4-cylinder" four-doors? A Dodge Hemi can put out some pretty impressive numbers as well, but the cornering probably sucks.
